Film Session: South Dakota State
As we saw against Princeton, the Hoosiers run their counter on the first play of the second half. Durham flips to Smith on the right wing:
Smith comes to the top of the key and finds Brunk popping out to the left wing. Meanwhile, Jackson-Davis sets a back pick for Durham on the right side:
Brunk swings to Franklin on the left wing while Durham comes back and sets a cross screen for Jackson-Davis. Jackson-Davis isn’t coming from the top of the key this time, he’s simply moving from block to block to get free:
He moves to the left low block as Arians again gives up several feet of space to Franklin:
Franklin makes the pass:
This time around, Arians comes down on the hard double to make sure Jackson-Davis isn’t single covered, leaving Franklin wide open on the left wing. Jackson-Davis decides to kick it back out to him:
With several feet of space to get the shot off, Franklin is able to connect on his only 3-pointer of the contest to put Indiana up by 14 early in the second half:
Franklin was just 1-of-4 from distance in the game. But this make helped the Hoosiers to a respectable 7-of-20 (35 percent) from 3-point range for the game, just a good enough mark to keep the Jackrabbits at bay.
