+ CBS Sports national college basketball writer Jeff Goodman delivers an offseason Big Ten report and drops a date for Indiana’s meeting with Butler next season at Assembly Hall: Sunday, November 27.

+ Garrett Green talked about his visit to San Diego State with Aztec Sports Report (premium link). Green is expected to announce a decision on Friday when he graduates from LSU. The 6-foot-11 center left California this morning per his Twitter account.

+ Northwestern is considering four new designs for the court in Welsh-Ryan Arena, including a nearly all-purple look.

+ Purdue coach Matt Painter cut six players from the USA World University Games roster. Only Michigan State’s Draymond Green and Minnesota’s Trevor Mbakwe remain from the Big Ten.

Notes and observations from Spiece Indy Heat’s 87-85 win over Queen City Prophets at the Hoosier Shootout:

+ Nic Moore, Spiece Indy Heat (pictured): The Warsaw guard took and made every big shot. He is very crafty inside and drew several fouls. He can flat out shoot it. He plays with guts and is willing to guard anyone. To begin the game he was guarding Aaron Thomas and did a good job on him despite the size difference. He was impressive to say the least.

+ AJ Hammons, Spiece Indy Heat: I hope prep school helps him next season with his physical play and toughness. He has a ton of upside, but drifts a lot in games. For a 7-footer, he really doesn’t make his presence felt on the court. Physically he looks great and he displays soft touch inside. Also a smart defender.

+ DeJuan Marrero, Spiece Indy Heat: Tough. That is his game. Tough defensively, tough rebounder, just tough. I, nor he, has any idea what position he will play in college. He played on the wing and struggled with his jumper and ball handling. If he gets a decent mid-range game and improves his ball handling, he will be a stud. What gets him over is he plays harder than anyone on the court at all times.

+ Aaron Thomas, Queen City Prophets: I finally saw a motivated Aaron Thomas. Prior to the game, you could tell he was ready for this one. After a shoving match with Purdue recruit Raphael Davis, Thomas went on a run on both ends of the court. He gets to the basket and finishes strong. In one instance he got to the basket and finished with a left-handed dunk. His ability to shoot is definitely there and he possesses tremendous upside. If a coach can get him motivated consistently, he will be a big-time player.  He finished with 26 points.

2012 Intro: A.J. Hammons

The Essentials: 7-0, 260-lb center for Carmel and Spiece Indy Heat

The Schools: Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Xavier have offered scholarships. Butler, Kentucky, Ohio State and Purdue have expressed interest.

The Numbers: 8.3 ppg, 7.8 rebounds and 4.8 for Carmel, which finished 15-7.

The Quote: “I’m pretty much focused on trying to get my schoolwork done right now. I really don’t just have one college I like. I’m looking for somewhere I can develop more and get playing time. It’s pretty open right now.” – Hammons to Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star.

The Ranking: The Hoop Scoop ranks Hammons the 94th best prospect in the 2012 class.

The Scout Says: “We’ve seen the progression for this kid over the past year and we can see the light slowly coming. The 7-footer out of Carmel (Ind.) is being more aggressive on both ends and is starting to show his potential. Offensively he has a go-to move in a right jump hook, now we’d like to see him add from there, but he already has what many young posts are missing. Defensively he contests shots and he certainly got his hands on quite a few on Sunday.” – Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels on Hammons at EYBL Los Angeles.
