After a trip to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational in 2015, Indiana will return to the Aloha State in 2016 for a meeting with a college basketball powerhouse.

ESPN announced today that the Hoosiers will play Kansas on Nov. 11, 2016 in the Armed Forces Classic at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu. The event will take place just under a month from the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The 2016 Armed Forces Classic will be a doubleheader which will also feature Arizona vs. Michigan State.

It will be the first meeting between Indiana and Kansas since 1995. The Jayhawks lead the all-time series 7-6.

“Indiana University is honored to take part in the 2016 Armed Forces Classic at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam,” Tom Crean said in a release. “This is one of the premiere events in college basketball and everyone in our program is thrilled and honored to be a part of this. Knowing that we will play on Veterans Day just prior to the 75th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor adds even greater significance and offers us an experience of a lifetime.”

Kansas is also participating in the 2015 Maui Invitational.

“We thought playing in the Armed Forces Classic would be a terrific experience for our players, especially to commemorate such an important time in our country,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “We’re excited to be a part of it and having the chance to play a tradition-rich program like Indiana, one of the true blue bloods of the college game.”

Hope we don’t schedule the team out of the tournament with an overly difficult preseason, this years schedule is perfect not too easy and not too difficult.

Playing KU both 2015 and 2016 sound fantastic. Any chance making it annually? I’m likely moving to Kansas next year and would love to see Hoosiers visiting at least once another year. Would be proud to add some maroon in the Jayhawks crowd. LOL.

Outstanding! I hope we can start a rivalry series with either Kansas, Louisville or maybe Florida. Would still like to have the Kentucky games back though…

Losing to Kansas in November would not keep us out of the tournament. This presents an excellent opportunity to play a top team early in the season and see where we measure up with the best. These showcases also help out with recruiting.

there are a lot of people who want to see the UK rivalry renewed, for what it’s worth I took a look at the Hoosiers records versus them in the last 20 games dating back to 1993. We have 5 wins to their 15 with the 93 game being coached by RMK. I too would like to see IU give Calipari a kick in the butt, but I’m realistic about the chance of winning with the current “one and dones” on UK’s roster

Yeah there’s no doubt they dominated the last years of the series. I guess for me it’s just the atmosphere and the proximity of the fanbases. Plus, it was just starting to get interesting again.

Awesome….and excellent game to help prep for the conference season. We need more of these.

  • I still have the 95 Kansas game on vhs…Patterson was injured during the game i believe. Hoosiers won continuing a home winning streak that would end at 50 games to Michigan.

I was at that game with my dad. I think Kansas may have been ranked #1 and the Hoosiers dominated them. The Hall was rocking that day!
