No shortage of IU targets in new Scout.com rankings

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | June 30th, 2009

With the summer evaluation period set to begin next week, Scout.com expanded their rankings for the 2011 class to include 75 prospects.

And several players being pursued by Indiana made the list.

Matt Carlino, the only player committed to Indiana in the 2011 class, is No. 72. Carlino recently transferred from Highland (AZ) to Bloomington South and is playing this spring with Indiana Elite.

Among the notables (High school and AAU team in parentheses):

+ Marquis Teague (Indianapolis Pike; Spiece): No. 6

+ Branden Dawson (Gary Lew Wallace, SYF Players): No. 26

+ Marshall Plumlee (Arden Christ School, NC; Indiana Elite): No. 35

+ Chasson Randle (Rock Island, IL; Illinois Wolves): No. 49

+ Austin Etherington (Hamilton Heights; Indiana Elite): No. 57

+ Cody Zeller (Washington HS; Indiana Elite): No. 59

Rivals.com also released an updated version of their 2011 rankings.

Yesterday on Tom Crean's Twitter. Coach says: "Great day at camp and a crucial visitor on campus." Does anyone know who the visitor was?

If he was alluding to Zeller, that seems awfully close to stepping over the line on commenting about a recruit. Watch your step, Coach.

I am not sure what this means but:

    1) Carelino not mentioned in the Rivals 100
    2) Nnana Egwu and Deng Leek ( both over 6'9" ) are listing IU in Rivals but they are not in Scout.
    3) Etherington not in Rivals 100
    4) Sidiki Johnson listed IU and IS in both services.

I suppose this shows the unreliability of these services after maybe the top 25. I am not banking on recruiting as much anyway but rather more hopeful of TC's ability to coach and develop

I wonder how come we didn't have some connection with Austin Rivers, Jerimiahs little bro.....surely he could have considered IU....too late now...
  • plane1972
You might recall that Doc Rivers was not especially pleased with his son's decommitment from Georgetown to IU considering it happened when our beloved program was really on the ropes. I cannot provide a link to share, but I do recall reading that at one point. It sounds like he has warmed up to Jeremiah's commitment to IU since he has gotten involved and addressed the team in the recent past. However, I don't think there was/is a rock-solid connection between IU and the Rivers family that would have compelled Austin to give us a hard look.

Kelin never say this is to late, People de comment all the time. Just ask Louisville fans. My guess is he grow up in Florida, and wanted to stay in state. I look for him to come to see big brother play in person and on TV. Nowadays, its not over till he signs

I really like the Etherington kid, I would love to get a verbal from him in the near future. Sounds like Hollowell visit went well today.

I've heard he's a lean to Mr. Matta. His dad played at Butler.
