Report: Former IU guard Bassett leaving UAB

by Alex Bozich in Former Hoosiers | December 16th, 2008

Former Indiana guard, who was booted off the Indiana roster last spring by interim coach Dan Dakich, is leaving UAB.

Jeff Goodman of FoxSports has the scoop:

Former Indiana guard Armon Bassett won’t play a game at UAB.

The 6-foot-1 junior, who was forced to sit out this season after transferring from Indiana, is leaving UAB, according to sources close to the situation.

Whatever the reason for leaving (speculation here that it’s grades), it’s a shame that a string of bad decisions ended Bassett’s career at IU and he’s now at another crossroads. Depending on the circumstances of his departure from UAB, it’s possible that he’ll get another chance somewhere, but his window of opportunity is getting smaller by the second.

Guarantee he is transferring back to the big 10 and used the Recker loop hole to do it

Could be grades or could be that he thinks or knows that Davis won't be back next season.
  • it's too bad. i always liked Armon, but he's had issues with grades and off-the-court- stuff since he was at Terre Haute South.

i wish him the best, but i think he needs to concentrate more on getting his life back together rather than where he should play basketball.

Bassett was one of my favorite players at IU. I loved his emotion on the court. I hope he figures things out.

You hope things work out for these kids given the IU/KS experiment they had to deal with, but given the issues last year with grades and behavior, this doesn't surprise me one bit. Loads of talent Armon has but off the court issues are the problem.....for the sake of the rest of the guys I would like to see Jordan do well at Xavier and Jamarcus and Deandre have some success and graduate.

Who cares. Yet another blog entry on a former Hoosier the isn't worth the space or print. He's gone. Been gone, yet we still have this fascination about these former players. I don't care where he ends up. He screwed up a nice gig at IU and blew it. I said good riddance to him a long time ago. Stop this former player madness. It's crazy, unless it's a former player that actually represented IU well, graduated and didn't transfer, get kicked out or whatever.

what about the games he played...and won...for the Hoosiers? Bassett is a real good basketball player and he represented IU well on the floor. It's not Bassett's fault that the IU program is in shambles.

So count me as someone who is interested.

    Mark,

Human nature to be curious. Like an ex-wife or girlfriend, you're always going to wonder what happened.

    Second that notion
  • whoa. Didn't exactly see that coming....
