Film Session: Minnesota
Here’s a pretty similar start to the first play we highlighted. Instead of Hunter coming out of the left corner to set the ball screen up top, this time it’s the right:
Hunter sets the pick for Khristian Lander and he goes right. With the rest of Indiana’s offensive players on the weak side, Lander has space to the rim if he’s able to get around the hedging Ihnen:
But as Mashburn Jr. recovers back to him, Lander turns back towards Hunter’s pop. Ihnen is much more aware of the threat this time around and immediately closes out to him before the pass even comes. But Indiana tosses another wrinkle into the mix this time around with Trayce Jackson-Davis coming to screen Ihnen:
Ihnen has to step around Jackson-Davis on the pass, slowing him up just a bit on the closeout:
With Hunter rising and firing from a few feet behind the line, it’s all enough for him to get the shot off and connect again:
Simple action again here from Indiana that Minnesota had figured out a bit more this time around. But the screen from Jackson-Davis made the shot just a touch easier for Hunter than it would have been had Ihnen come straight on the closeout.
