Film Session: Hope College

In his Hoosier debut, Pittsburgh transfer Josh Newkirk dished out seven assists against just one turnover in 24 minutes of action.

Newkirk flashed strong┬ácourt vision and an ability to find teammates in a variety of ways — in transition, in the pick and roll and on the move in the halfcourt.

We’ll take a look at four of his assists in the latest edition of Film Session:

Juwan Morgan grabs the rebound and the Hooisers are on the move:

Morgan brings the ball to the right wing and begins to make a move to the middle of the court. Newkirk hangs in the left corner:

As Morgan makes his move into the paint, Newkirk’s man starts shading over and Newkirk takes the opportunity to cut to the basket behind him:

Morgan falls to the ground, but is able to get it to Newkirk:

Newkirk attracts the defense and makes a sharp pass across the court to Curtis Jones:

Jones splashes it in for three points:

First of many great film sessions! Thanks RC!

In the post-Yogi era, my priority is to see a PG emerge who can distribute the ball in what is going to be a more balanced and spread offense. It seems to me that JN is in the box seat for that role.

No offense to Alex, Josh, and Hailey, but my favorite ITH feature.

Great look at some strong heads-up plays. I really like how Josh sees the floor.

I watched the replay. My thoughts don’t differ too much from just looking at the stats: too sloppy on the TOs. Really liked Max’s thoughts though. Impressed with most of the newcomers: DD, DG, JN, and Cujo will all get important minutes. OG’s stroke and JM’s handle reflect strong summer work. Can’t wait for 11/11

As long as JN is also a “threat” to score and can see the floor like he does, we have our PG. I think he is quick enough and can shoot well enough to keep defenders honest.

  • None taken. I love Film Session, too.

  • John D Murphy

Agreed. I think RJ can play with either JN or JBJ. Those three should take the bulk of the minutes with DG and Cujo getting three gaurd line-up minutes.

I missed these a bunch. Great to see the new season beginning.

I am more glad for the cupcakes on the November and December schedule after seeing that stuff needs to get worked out. These guys need some time to tighten it up.

We can hardly infer anything from this game. Hope is a joke. In at least two of these videos the Hope defense was worthless. I hope we’re not going to Kansas thinking we’ve played any games yet.

  • sarge

Yeah but so is Washburn, the team that Kansas just played in their exhibition. They only beat them by 18 and actually got outrebounded by the Ichabods. We play Kansas in Hawaii.

  • Outoftheloop

The”Ichabods”? That is a great name!

  • Outoftheloop

    Not yet!

  • Outoftheloop

A PG at IU under Crean, if he is to have the ball in his hands for 30+ minutes/game, MUST score! So I vote for PG by committee! Josh is a part of that committee!

    Thanks!
