    Hey Alex, just curious…

On the recruiting boards, after the players that have given verbals…do you rank them via need, likelihood of player coming to IU, etc?

  • It’s in no way a perfect science, but try to gauge IU interest in the player and also the player’s interest in IU.

When I look at the schools that are interested in these guys, there’s no Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke or Kansas. I’m sure they’re good, but I’d prefer the best.

    1.  Kentucky has demonstrated they do not recruit like other schools.  They wait and swoop down on the very top players, who will only stay one year.

    2.  UNC and Duke may have a better set of regional players to go for in a certain year, and aren’t looking nationally as much.

    3.  You will start seeing Indiana as a bellwether on more of these recruits.  In fact, you could see them as a bellwether in the case of Marcus Lee at this point, for example.

Marcus Lee just picked up a Duke offer apparently. Crean is focusing on ingratiating himself with the cream of the crop in the classes of 2014 and 2015 because of our recent success. Might be a little late on 2013, but if you look at 2014, we’re looking at a lot of high end guys.

Devin Davis and Luke Fischer are both going to end up 4-star, top 100 players. devin Davis by many accounts was the best player at the AAU tourney this past weekend and Fischer is putting up huge #s.

I saw some bonehead on this site leave a comment that players like Devin Davis are a dime a dozen…..what a stupid comment…that kid is going to be special….if he can develop a consistent 15 ft jumper he’s going to be an enormous addition to the squad.

As for Hartman…he’s got to develop something other than a perimeter game. He needs to get more aggressive and play like he’s 6’6. I guess at this point I’m hoping for a Novak kinda guy in him.
