Video: Jaquan Lyle Highlights at Best of the Midwest

  • 07/21/2011 12:57 pm in

Evansville Bosse sophomore Jaquan Lyle made the switch from the Eric Gordon All-Stars to Spiece Indy Heat prior to the July evaluation period and the 2014 guard admitted the adjustment was rough after his first game at the adidas Invitational. But the adjustment period appeared to be over when Lyle, the No. 10 prospect nationally in the 2014 class by ESPN.com, exploded for 42 points in a game at the Best of the Midwest in Indianapolis last week.

Inside the Hall was in attendance at the Best of the Midwest and we’ve compiled over two minutes of Lyle video which is available in the embedded media player below. (Note: You can expand the video to full screen by using the arrows in the bottom right hand corner of the player.)

Nice passing throughout, looks like a solid kid.  Blackmon and Lyles don’t seem like the kind of kids that would decommit, but for some reason I could see Lyle backing out of a commitment if he does decide to pull the trigger before his sophomore year.

Exciting prospect though, I’d love to add him and Bluiett, but it might have to be one or the other.

  • RobD

So wait. Are Blackmon, Jaquan, and Bluiett on the same AAU squad?

Jaquan “Magic” Lyle is Merlin with the ball in his hands. We are going to put the full court press on him when he visits Bloomington and get him commited. Kids his age don’t do the things he does, nor do older kids.He is a 6’5″ true point guard that delivers more than UPS.
Did you also see him posting up? For you experienced ones out there, you can see a Magic Johnson reincarnation right before your eyes. When he gets to the next level, the attitude will be removed. This kid is a winner.

You hit the nail on the head.  This kid appears to be special at this point.  I hear people talking of his attitude….he’s 15ish?  Who didn’t have an attitude at that age.  When I was around him I thought he seemed like a nice kid.  Every time I’ve seen him, in person and on video, he is way better than the competition and seems almost bored but those skills can not be denied.  I think he may be so advanced he gets frustrated when plays don’t get completed, but I wouldn’t call that an attitude.  He wants to win.

“I think he may be so advanced he gets frustrated when plays don’t get completed”. That’s a valid point and a great observation. Lyle is a banner dropper.

Why is Crean even looking at a point guard in 2013? Both Blackmon and Lyle (if he commits) will be better at the point than any 2013 commit? Its time to slow down the 2013  recruiting and concentrate on Lyle and Bluitt

  • base

I would think because all we have on paper as a true point is Yogi. JB isn’t a true point, he’s a pure shooter and scorer. Coach has to cover his backside and he can’t wait for recruits to commit. Good point guards are not easy to come by and excellent point guards like Yogi are more rare than platinum.
Incidently, Coach knows precisely what he’s doing, trust me on that one.

One more thing about Jaquan and I’ll shut up about this kid. Having him on the floor will make his teammates highly aware of what’s happening because if they aren’t, they might have a pass ricochet off their face. I need to watch him on defense more because he was lazy at the AMC while playing for the 15 unders.

Gonna have to agree. I see 5 PGs here on the current roster and I do think we’ll get some contribution at PG from all the Indiana boys that walked-on.

What the hell is the 2nd number?  I’m guessing wing-span, but I have no real idea.

  • B_ball_baller12

I see one point and 2 maybe points with remy and vj3…and Having walkons playing the most intense spot (pg) on the court is not encouraging

Sorry for the stretched out post. It didn’t look like that when I pasted it in from the IU Bball page.

I am just saying we have 5 PGs on the roster. And I wouldn’t discount the walk-ons just yet. They are after all, Indiana boys…
