Recruiting Roundup: April contact period

With the April contact period coming to a close at day’s end, here’s an aggregated list of uncommitted recruits that have reportedly been watched by the IU staff.

It’s certainly not a complete list, but it’s a compilation of what’s been reported.

Here’s the official timetable for the contact period per the NCAA recruiting calendar:

Contact Period April 7 (noon) – 20, 2011, [except for (1) below]:
(1) Dead Period April 11-14, 2011

And here’s how the NCAA defines a contact period:

Contact period is the time when a college coach may have in-person contact with a prospective student-athlete and the prospect’s parents on or off the college’s campus. The coach may also watch the prospective student-athlete play or visit his or her high school. The prospect and the parents may visit a college campus, and the coach may write and telephone during this period.

Alex and staff, continuously impressed with the job you do.

On another note Mich St. picked up a great addition to their staff. Really wanted to see Fife at IU last year.

    Agreed. Good stuff Alex. Thanks.

Catch the video on Mitch McGary from CityLeagueHoops. He looks very impressive for a man his size! He, Zeller, Hanner and Jurkin would be incredible.

    He looked really good.

Otherwise, given what we already have through 2014 this list looks very good to find the remaining pieces on our roster.

    Excited.

Me, too, firedad. Instead, Fife gets picked up by one of our rivals (although you have to figure Izzo called Crean to ask him what he thought of Fife, since Crean met with Fife last offseason). Bummer, man.

    My wish list in order:

    1) Jaquan Lyle
    2) Trevon Bluiett
    3) Gary Harris
    4) Mitch McGary
    5) Mark Williams

But at least all those UK brats are going pro!

  • marcusgresham

I’m afraid few if any of them are going pro.

I wish Dane was coming here, too. I think we could use his dedication to defense and his toughness and competitive spirit on our coaching staff. I’m not saying we don’t already have that, just not enough of it. Isso recruited Dane as a player and has followed his coaching career. It’s a good move and great opportunity for Dane, so congratulations to him. I’m so glad that he didn’t go to fill one of the openings at Purdue.

3 say that they are testing waters but none have signed with an agent. Liggins, Jones, & Knight.

Too bad McGary’s poor academics landed him in Prep School next year instead of on our roster. We could seriously use him next season.

Hollowell spent the day tweeting with Lyle yesterday. AE was on him today. Looks like he is headed to PUke for the weekend. Hope it rains and the cesspool overflows.

The only one I have seen in person is Trevon, the rest on highlight videos. I see Jaquan as 5 star talent and Trevon is very, very good. Securing those two players solidfies your future and my future as Hoosier fans and placing the 2014 class as a top 5 and reloading our talent. Gary Harris follows because as good as he is, he is gravy at this point with what we already have in 2012. McGary and Williams round it out because they are both bigs, McGary first because he can get here sooner.

I have must say, I’m becoming a huge Mitch McGary fan. He has a big ten body already and has a nice skill set. He reminds me of Josh McRoberts, he has good handles for his size and is a Great rebounder. I have him at 1A with Garry Harris as the 1 for the round out of 2012.

Coach Cal tolld Liggins to leave, not Miller, because Miller will play next year and Ligggins will not!

What recruit does Dane brung to MI St-no one!

  • http://weeklycritiquely.blogspot.com/ IUfanPurduePhD

It’s not about a specific recruit; it’s about a fiery player from a decade ago that has the potential to develop into a great assistant coach. At this point, I don’t think Crean needs any help recruiting.

  • Anonymous

I like Dane Fife. But the only assistant coach that would fire me up would be someone who is great at developing “Big Men”.

  • millzy32

Must be nice to be able to tell someone to leave that has NBA type talent just because you have a better guy coming in to fill his shoes. Someday, someday.

  • Anonymous

I don’t see Liggins as NBA talent, but probably he will play in Europe

  • Anonymous

So i’m pretty sure. Like 95% sure that Jaquan Lyle is really leaning towards commiting to IU
