FISHERS — On Tuesday night, 2012 prospect Gary Harris recorded 23 points, two rebounds and two assists in a 62-51 win over crosstown rival Fishers.

The 6-4 guard shot 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-9 from the free throw line and did a little bit of everything in the win, knocking down jump shots and attacking the rim off the bounce. Early in the game, Harris showed off his athleticism with a two handed put-back dunk from a teammate’s missed layup.

He did a nice job of getting to the foul line, attacking the rim and accepting contact in exchange for opportunities at the foul line. This was an efficient contest for Harris as he limited his mistakes and didn’t force any shots. Harris also did a great job on defense, disrupting passing lanes and recording two steals in the contest.

Afterwards, I had a chance to talk to him about his season through eight games and his recruiting picture. Video of our conversation is available in the embedded media player below:

Forget the stats. Most important factor is the hat.

sounds like a mature kid. can see why top programs want him.

Agreed. The choice in his chapeau is most excellent. To the onlooker the message is clear: He’s not afraid.

  • Here is a key player for IU….with Zeller, Yogi, Perea and Harris you now have a CTC line up. Now you have a comparable line up to OSU and MSU and only then can you compare whether CTC is able to coach this team to a NCAA title. My bet is on CTC…Harris will love this system and is a real key IMHO.

I think he would be the %&^ if he wore a fedora instead.

My only concern is his timetable. I assume we’ll make room for him but that’s easier in this off-season than this time next year.

I am wearing the same hat right now at my desk. And I look good………

  • I think Matta and certaianly Izzo are at or near the top of coaches nationally and if we beat them with similar talent then I would argue that his system and style (despite some detractors) would place him near the top as well. Good for IU and CTC and about time as well.

I don’t disagree that the dribble drive utilized with the talent we have (as Dakich pointed out) is going to be succesful with the current group – but again, my point is that CTC likes this scheme and with the players coming in he will make it work….doubt players today would flock to IU if Dan were the coach with schemes others on this board feel CTC should initiate now….just my opinion but in 2 years with some thoroughbreds in there and an upper class well versed in this system I do believe we got a shot at a BT title and more…If Harris comes a title shot in 3-4 yrs is possible…

Looks like Cal got him some 200 dollar headphones for Christmas.

  • Kelin Oladipo

Milla…I think with Harris, he will get the Zeller Ferrell treatment. Take as long as you like given the feeling is mutual. There is a scholly for him no matter what…….Not sure how this affects other guys like DSR or Hollowell. I recently read a book that said most coaches give a timetable to a kid to commit then begin to move on if they don’t respond.

Sorry to start talking about this again, but Capo is gone. Once again, sorry.

    Coach Tom Crean

  • Long time reader, first time poster. I agree with Kelin, as much as CTC has been around, football, summer and the season, he knows if he wants to come there is a spot for him. Gary has to be our #1 prospect left in the 2012 class. DSR and Hollowell would be great, but Gary would be great for the O that we are running right now. Yogi running point Zeller down low and Gary on the wing is a pretty scary lineup for 2012/13.
