Sampson: White expected to play against Purdue

  • 02/18/2008 7:29 pm in

Kelvin Sampson told Don Fischer on the Kelvin Sampson Show from Foster quad that Indiana senior D.J. White is expected to play Tuesday night against Purdue.

White left Saturday’s 80-61 win over Michigan State with an injury to his left knee, but an MRI on Sunday showed no structural damage.

We’ve heard that he wouldn’t play, now we’ve heard that he will play. At this point, who knows what to believe. We’ll find out in 24 hours.

“We’ll find out in 24 hours.”

My thoughts exactly. This is just typical coach posturing…keeping the Boilers guessing…which I think is silly.

  • bleeding crimson

So, do you think it is more important that we know or Purdue knows whether he is going to play? How can that be silly. TPurdue has been watching tape on how to defend White since their last game and to know that don't have to worry….let'em worry either way. We'll all find out in 24 hours.

I just read Hoop Scoop again and in the transcript he said it again…DJ will play. I am sure he wouldn't be pulling a fast one our emotions……screw purdue….

JaJuan Johnson, if you think EJ lit you up last year, DJ and DT have a little something for you……KS also said DT weight creeped back up but it is down again….mmmm

My apologies to Mr. McGhee….you may be the only player who wants KS out…..still not sure why you don't get ANY run.

  • HoosierSmitty

Exactly…Purdue is game planning to defend DJ regardless…it's not going to change Purdue's game plan, nor is it going to give us any advantage as a team to keep Purdue guessing, so why do it?

It's just my personal belief that it's unnecessary gamesmanship when coaches do that – especially a coach that has enough problems already.

it is important for dj to play and even more important that he doesn't aggravate the injury. no iu fan wants to see iu play pu without dj, but this iu fan would rather have him for the remainder of the season and tournament.

does anyone know what may come of the commits for next year if sampson leaves?

why is no one talking about the potential of ray mccallum coaching? was he at all involved with the calls? there are a number of former head coaches in the assistant spots at iu. i think dakich, being the mgr. of basketball ops. is partially responsible for allowing this to happen…but then again…i don't know what happened or who was involved.

will all the assistants be had as well if sampson leaves? if so, i guess we can count one recruit out for sure (mccallum's son).

lots of questions on my mind about lots of things…but the number one question is whether or not dj is okay. he is the heart that pumps blood into this year's squad and he needs to be healthy. how about the performance of taber and thomas in his absence though…i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ray I sent this link to Big A, but Ebanks doesn't sound happy and all but said he would reconsider if KS is gone…..Elston said he is more about the school than anything. Lance Stephenson said the same thing…..Ebanks concerns me though…

I agree about McCallum…I've dropped his name, but really only in reference to being the interim coach. He's been a part of the staff for the last two years and Dakich only became a bench coach after Senderhof was fired. I honestly don't know who is more involved in the coaching of the team.

I imagine that both would be named “head coach” to some degree, like the Davis and Trelor interim situation. Dakich would likely get the interim nod, however, given that he's an IU guy.

  • I had a link to this posted on one of the link dumps a few days ago.

Ebanks won't be going anywhere until IU releases him from his LOI. And I doubt they'd release him before letting the new coach make a pitch.

  • TheMiz

I agree, the new coach will be given at least a chance to hold onto him. Ebanks seemed really dedicated to coming here back when the original report came out in the fall. Here's to hoping whoever has the reins after the season is likeable/prestigious/persuasive enough that Sampson's departure won't be the cause for the departure of a player I have been very much looking forward to see suit up for the cream 'n crimson next season.

That's great news if DJ is ready to go tomorrow night. The Boilers have no answer for him.

High school players, i.e. recruits, should have no impact on the decision to fire or not fire Sampson. If he gets fired and they want to play somewhere else then fine, the school should release them from their LOI. But getting recruits and even winning don't make cheating and lying okay.

  • Hoosier_Hound

It seems like Sampson staying on, rather than Sampson getting fired, may be the bigger hindrance to Ebanks playing here anyway.

“I basically think he lied about (knowing about things),” Ebanks said. “That’s wrong, especially being at a big school like Indiana.”

  • Ryan_Btown

This is off topic but after reading some quotes, here's how I feel…

I say…it was terrible that we booed Sampson and cheered for him later. He mentioned that it meant a lot to him that his family and wife heard people cheering for him towards the end of the game… I know he cheated…we all do. But let's at least show the man some decency and remain impartial during introductions. If you are going to cheer…cheer for the team, and if you are going to boo…boo the damn Boilers! Boo them loudly!

If we remember, Armon wanted out of his LOI until he talked to KS. So I think Coach Anthony Grant or Thad Matta should get a chance to talk to Ebanks first….

    Grant …Matta wink wink

I hope we are not puttign DJ at risk by playing tonight. That would be the last thing I would do. PU win is good but there are more and bigger fish to fry.

If losing recruits was a criteria for anything then Knight shold have been fired many years before his time.

Did anyone see Cuse and L'ville play the 2-3 zone against each other last night ? I am hoping we can play it touogh too despite our personnel.

I want one of the last 2 Coaches of the Year as my top candidates. Matta is a longshot and ok. Grant on the other hand got outcoached Saturday night but his team showed some good discipline except at times on offense but enough to get beat. I view Grant as a 2nd tier guy right now until he shows somethign more than Fla. He is rumored already going to LSU. Sean Miller has a contract to 2016 . Also a longshot.

Matta…… no way, we don't need Karl Malden at IU, besides he cheats also he just hasn't been caught.
