When the ball goes into Race Thompson on the right side post on this next play, E.J. Stephens leaves Phinisee and hangs near Thompson, not committing to a double team and essentially guarding an area with a one-man zone. As the ball makes its way out to Phinisee via a skip pass from Thompson, Stephens continues to zone, playing off Phinisee and in-between him and Jackson-Davis to try and ward off the pass over the top.
So Phinisee smarty uses a pass fake to get Stephens moving back and then fires up and hits the 3-pointer:
