Film Session: Northern Illinois

Across its first two contests of the 2021-2022 campaign, Indiana has scored a number of times on designed lob plays. Often, the Hoosiers are spreading their offense wide, allowing plenty of space at the basket and sending a player there to convert on the alley-oop. If executed properly, it’s about as high-percentage of a look as you’re going to get on the court.

We’ll take a look at three such plays from Indiana’s win against Northern Illinois, as well as some Michal Durr, in the latest edition of Film Session:

In the first half, the Huskies went to a 1-3-1 zone and Rob Phinisee quickly sniffed it out, calling out a play to bust the zone. While it took Jordan Geronimo a little bit to figure out what was going on, once he set up on the left high post, it was as simple as Trayce Jackson-Davis receiving the ball on the right high post, attracting the defense, and finding Geronimo at the rim against an empty backside of the zone.
