Film Session: Northwestern

Indiana has 13 seconds left on the shot clock as Jackson-Davis sets a back screen for Durham at the free throw line. Young slides over to hedge on Durham. Kopp hangs off Franklin in help position:

Young is able to cut of Durham’s drive as Kopp heads back out towards Franklin:

As Durham picks up his dribble, Audige recovers back to him. Young recovers back to Jackson-Davis:

So Durham finds Franklin:

Here comes Thompson to set a ball screen:

As Kopp fights over the top of the screen, Beran is essentially icing the ball screen as a big, facing up Franklin and forcing him back baseline:

So Durham heads back that way. Kopp starts to move back to Durham. With Beran nearly at halfcourt, he’s got a lot of ground to make up to get back to Thompson, so Audige moves over on the help. This allows Durham some space on the right wing:

Franklin makes the pass. Durham is a couple feet behind the line as Audige moves back to him. Young moves to Thompson as a result and he calls out for someone to pick up Jackson-Davis:

Beran moves to Jackson-Davis. Durham being a few feet behind the line gives him some extra room to rise and fire on this shot, which he banged home:

With the defense getting spread out to nearly halfcourt here, it gave the Hoosiers a little more room to play with than usual. Durham’s spacing was key to being able to get the shot off in rhythm.
