Class of 2014 Christchurch (Va.) forward Devin Robinson is down to four schools.

The 6-foot-8, 170 pound wing canceled his official visit to Connecticut that was to take place the weekend of Oct. 19. The Hartford Courant was the first to report the news.

Robinson has already taken official visits to Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and Indiana and will take his final official visit this weekend to Florida.

He is expected to sign a National Letter of Intent in the early signing period that begins on Nov. 13. Robinson is rated the No. 21 prospect nationally in the 247Composite.

Indiana has one commitment in its 2014 class, Richmond Benedictine (Va.) guard Robert Johnson.

Would be a great pick up to fill our needs for next year. After him, anyone else committing would be a bonus.

  • Caleb Moore

Gotta be a good thing for IU the Uconn visit getting canceled. Would think we would be a frontrunner here, but I’ve been fooled before… last week.

  • N71

Any word on timing for a verbal, I see he is expected to sign in November. I think one key advantage we’d have is our school/campus culture being basketball first versus the others who are all big football schools. We could flip to football though if we beat MSU this weekend.

  • steve

I would say its good news for all the schools left. Plus he is not cancelling the Florida trip so you cant read anything into this imo.

  • CreamandCrimson

UConn was considered the frontrunner by 247Sports’ composite predictions. Yet another example that we shouldn’t listen to any predictions or “insider” info….it appears they know as much as we do…next to nothing.

  • jmac

Wow! That is great news… Uconn was the team that worried me the most.

  • N71

…unless he’s already made up his mind to go to UCONN.

  • AZIU71

I stick with my call 3 weeks ago, he verbals to Indiana on 10/24.

  • N71

…although, the article says “down to 4”, so that MUST mean UCONN is out.

  • Caleb Moore

Uconn is reportedly out because they want to take a “big” with what most believe is their last open scholly. They dont see DR as a 4 or 5. He could play the 4 in our offense, but is probably a 3. With playing time being such a big deal to recruits these days, it worries me that we have a load of wings already. Almost positive he would get big minutes and maybe start from Day 1 at OKst or ND.

  • N71

I’d pick ND for the education, OSU & UF for the ladies, IU for both.

  • Shawn Congo

Who would cancel a free trip to Florida?!? Lol I would question him if he had.

  • Stephen O.

He reminds me of a much more athletic Christian Watford, with a bigger upside.

  • doug

Maybe it’s just me, but he looks like Watford too. Maybe one day we’ll have something called the “Rob-shot” 🙂

  • colinbb10

it’s not like Gainesville is Coastal FL

  • Tucson Hoosier

Agreed. I don’t think we have anyone else on our radar exept Blackman and Exum. If there is any chance that a Blackman commit would lead to Rob Johnson decommitting, then I don’t wan’t any part of it. Johnson is more of a Hoosier than Blackman ever will be.

  • Wet Vette

Devon Robinson IMO would be a huge recruit for IU along with ROJO the 2014 class would be awesome.Devon has an I/O game that would add to the already athletic team IU has. He has cancelled the UCONN which was thought to be the front runner..Hmm is ROJO working his majic like he said he would…? This kid is awesome …GO IU!!!

  • E Foy McNaughton

Pretty please with sugar on top, join the Hoosier Nation! Honestly, if the only 2 openings we have right now go to DR and RJ, I’d say we had a good recruiting year in spite of the gloom and doom comments often posted…..

  • E Foy McNaughton

I am a graduate of IU & ND… honestly, ND commands more respect education wise in most circles.

  • E Foy McNaughton

And it took my teenage son about 20 minutes in line at HH to figure out IU was the school of choice for him…. He likes the ladies!

  • E Foy McNaughton

The 3 spot is going to get crowded soon, with Jeremy, Devin, & potentially DR. Unless Jeremy shocks the heck out of me and develops into an NBA ready player this year. That would be a good shock, but a shock all the same.

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

I agree on that. I reserve a special place in my mind for Hoosiers who turn blue. Despite his dads history, JBJ grew up in Indiana. That makes him a Hoosier.

  • transplantedhoosier

I live in Gainesville and can second that.

  • Corey Dunigan

Blackmon is a Hoosier until he says hes not! Please commit to IU James Jr.. Pahlease!!!!!!!!

  • IU80

Hoosier Hysteria – we were cheering like mad, “we want Devin. We want Devin.” Lots of love shown by the Hoosier Nation when he walked across the Hall.

    Nicely put !!

  • Hoosier Hall

The college game is evolving almost like the NBA where you have several guys who can play the 2, 3, 4 and sometimes even run the point. It’s not unrealistic to have a few guys that would traditionally play a “3” spot in the game at the same time. Most of them can shoot, rebound, pass and defend almost any position.

  • Crimson&CremeFraiche

its not like its Indiana as winter approaches either

  • Hoosier Hall

I would love to land this kid. I could see him being a matchup problem especially if he puts on about 30 pounds.

  • lderck

I ran into him at Kelley when he was in town for Hoosier Hysteria, the Watford resemblance was definitely strong – the first thing I thought of when I saw him

  • RMK

Yeah, but he’ll go down there and watch an SEC football game for free. You can’t pay people to watch UConn football. Enjoy the game and the weather Devin, then come on back.

  • Crimson&CremeFraiche

I remember an article on ITH about a year ago saying that Crean wanted to have a team that was long and could play multiple positions like the Louisville teams of the 80’s. I don’t know those teams but sounded like a bunch of wings. I think that is a great idea. That’s what Syracuse was basically. We have good all-around wings. We should try just throwing them all out on the floor at the same time when we play the University of Maryland University College(which is a real college, google it)

  • Caleb Moore

And Hartman and troy…all 3s. But crean doesn’t really pigeon hole many kids so if you can shoot and rebound you can probably go 2-4 in our offense for stretches at least.

  • Crimson&CremeFraiche

    Agree 100% Come on Devin!!

  • Tj21

Just asking……why does JH get the credit for being so highly thought of? He has yet to show more than a flash here and there, no consistency, no emotion, no energy. I am just curious what I am missing.

  • Ole Man

I’m more worried about FL than anyone else.

  • CreanFaithful

You’re missing the fact that facial expression means zero. People focus in different ways, whether you can relate or not. I don’t care if a guy slaps the floor on D or not if he comes up with a block or rebound… over that argument. The kid was a beast in HS (offensively). He came in and contributed on D last year and accepted being a role player. He’s just needs to tighten things up on offense. From all accounts I hear regarding practice, he leads scoring.

  • CreanFaithful

I’ll prob catch some heat for this, but DR can play the 2 as well….

  • HoosierCruz

We don’t need anyone else if Devin Robinson commits…

Although I would still obviously accept JB or Exum if they were interested!

  • BC

Our wings are almost all athletic, we could put 3 to 4 on the court at the same time. Depending on the ball skills of a couple of the guys. But our system calls for a lot of wings. DR could be a stretch 4 in our system. Remember we only have a few guards, and by next year we may only have Stanford, Yogi and RJ at guard. So some guys are going to be playing multiple positions.

  • TomJameson

I agree about FL. Devin could be keeping the visit just to get down to Florida for a day or two, but it could be really appealing to him. Not much wrong about FL.

  • BC

You will see why this year. He should have a pretty good developmental leap forward and another one by the end of the year. Crean gets a lot of flak, but one thing he does know is how to spot talent.

  • BC

Worry about Ok St as well. Rumor is we’re all neck and neck.

  • Oldfan

On his twitter account he refers to himself as a 6’8″ guard.

  • Snookafly

Yeah, in some of his early recruiting pictures he looks a lot like C-Wat and even Christians little brother.

  • HoosierPat

We have to be the favorite here, right? At Hoosier Hysteria you could tell he was really enjoying the experience. Hopefully he chooses Indiana.

  • drewheck

I’m guessing hell probably just wait and sign a loi

  • drewheck

Maybe a 6’8″ guard is what we need so if we come up against a situation like the Syracuse game in the tourney it would help us get up shots were we couldnt at that time

  • Chris

Any particular reason we should be worrying about Florida?
