Blackmon Jr., Bryant named to Wooden Award preseason top 50

Indiana junior guard James Blackmon Jr. and sophomore forward Thomas Bryant have been named to the John R. Wooden Award preseason top 50 list, the national advisory board for the award announced on Tuesday.

A total of 10 Big Ten players were named to the list as the two IU players joined Maryland’s Melo Trimble, Michigan State’s Miles Bridges, Iowa’s Peter Jok, Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ, Bronson Koenig and Nigel Hayes, Purdue’s Caleb Swanigan and Malcolm Hill of Illinois.

Former Indiana All-American and Director of Basketball Operations Calbert Cheaney was the last Hoosier to win the Wooden Award in 1993.

Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo were both finalists for the award during the 2012-2013 season and Yogi Ferrell was a finalist for the award last season.

The winner of the 2017 award will be announced on ESPN on April 7, 2017. The complete preseason top 50 list is available at this link.
