Video: ESPN, Fischer calling Watford’s buzzer beater

We’ve had a couple of requests in the comments, so here’s a look at Christian Watford’s buzzer beater to beat No. 1 Kentucky from both the ESPN broadcast and also the IU Radio Network broadcast:

What’s next? Kentucky radio call! Who’s on it???

    :)

  • IU_Fan_90

I get chills every time I listen to fischer make the call.

One of the best IU memories I have so far (i’m only 21) and I cant wait to tell my future kids about this game just like my dad tells me about all big moments when he was growing up

I was there, but last night I watched these videos over and over again after I got home.  It was like part of my brain did not believe that it had happened.  It’s the next morning, and I still can’t stop smiling!

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

Thank you for being loyal.  I am 32 and one of my earliest memories was the chair incident, but I remember the 87 Championship.  Glad to see young Hoosiers believing based on legend.  Glad you are a fellow Hoosier! Go IU!!!

  • The_Real_Assembly_Hall

GREAT IDEA!!!!! Get it up on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IUfanPurduePhD

    Ooooohhhh, I like that idea.

“Dat Jones keeed dreeebles it down the flow-err, passes it to Wat-furrd, chucks up a pray-err … Oh sheeeeeeet.”

  • IU_Fan_90

I am the same way, I have watched the replay of the final 5 seconds at least 50 times, and every time I smile and still here wondering if this is real

Love it!!! I can’t stop smiling, have watched the espn replay and listened to Fischer’s call probably 30 times since last night. What a beautiful day to be a Hoosier. I’d almost forgotten how good it feels

After the what this program has been through I can’t help but get a little choked up watching the replay. Truly what makes IU basketball so special! Please tell me Cody is okay….he took a tumble while running to jump into the pile. Hopefully he didn’t get stomped on.

This presents a super opportunity for devoted Indiana Fans.  I’ve been posting all over ( this video too) ESPN, CBS, Cincy Enquirer showing the contrast between the smart, good kids who go to IU and the thugs at the lesser schools such as Cincy and Xavier.  Future recruits read baskeball (duh) and if they see the Hoosier Nation out in force they will get the type of impression of us FREE that even expensive recruiters will find tough to match If every IU Fan took 5 minutes to post comments and/or this video- it could go viral and it could  impress the right kid sitting in his room reading basketball news.

Not only does national and area posting impress future recruits but it also affects future news and tv coverage.  When media sees the huge interest in IU they are more likely to write about us and our fans and also more likely to put us on TV.

THAT JUST HAPPENED. I get chills and giggle like a little girl when I watch this…even on the thousandth time. :)

  • HoosierSmitty

I love all the player reactions…CWat holding his form like he was born to win it for us, Mr. energy Vic leaps into CWat’s calm arms, Zeller with his hands raised in the air, Jones watching and running to Christian, Coach looking like he can’t believe it, the players on the scorer’s table, Kentucky’s players zombified looks of disbelief….love it!

I LOVE this team.  What these guys have been through and to be at this point is amazing.  IDC if this group doesn’t win a national championship or any championship at all, this team is by far my favorite IU team I have ever watched and cheered for.  This could not have happened to a better group of guys.  Really happy  for those seniors who went through it all and stuck it out.

  • Ihoosieru

I am sixty years old and this is my best highlight.  I know that what Keith Smart did was really amazing, but this happening after the struggles that Coach and the player have had and for us IU faithful who stuck around through it all.  I say Coach Crean for president C Watford for VP.  Take that Kelvin Samson.  I know that Watford had 20 points but this was a team victory.  Go Hoosiers.

Yeah, I was 14 in 1987. Had to go to my stupid BoyScout meeting. Needless to say, I left early and ran all the way home. This win ranks up there, but not quite, obviously.

I’m one of those guys who wasn’t there for the 87 title, and barely remember the 02 run. This, for me, is the beginning of being able to tell my children and grandchildren the stores. It’s beginning. Finally.

  • Tanner

Don Fischer’s call great as always, have listened to this probably 50 times now. I like the ESPN call, Shulman’s reaction seems more genuine than Vitale who seems to not want to believe it for some reason.

  • Ron-in-FL.

I love Jeremy Hollowells reaction as the shot goes in! He was standing behind the bench and he gives a Fist Thump. How could any recruit at the game last night not want to play for the Hoosiers!

So proud to be a Hoosier.  Our team has shown such great composure in the early part of this season.  The scary part about the game yesterday was, I didn’t think IU played there best game… It is going to be scary to see what the Hoosiers look like when they are firing on all cylinders.  GO IU… SOOOO HAPPY.

I’m with you man. I’m 21 myself, and my biggest memories were Haston’s 3 against MSU and our run to the championship game in 02. I was at basketball practice when we beat Duke, but at least my family taped the game so I could watch it later. I’ve lived out in Colorado for a while now and I’m the only Hoosier fan I know out here, so last night I was running around like a fool telling everyone I knew or didn’t know about the game. Pretty sure I scared alot of people, but who cares? I was psyched.

Studying for finals? Yeah right. By the way, I’ve been reading this site for over a year now several times a day and finally decided to post. It makes me feel a part of Hoosier Nation even though I’m a long ways away. Thanks to Alex and crew as well as the rest of you for making this a fantastic place to be.

I live in Rhode Island but am going to school in North Carolina and I know maybe 5 IU fans total..my roommates after last night finally realized how big of an IU fan I am after I ran through the house screaming when the shot went in.  Im with you about finals..they took a backseat yesterday, the only thing on my mind all day was the game

  • Bama 4 IU

Congrats. Here is to more great memories for you ( and everyone of us). I was there as a freshman in 1987. Many great memories. This one was very special! Right up there with the best of them. After our troubles, buzzer beating the Cats is Awesome!

  • IUfanPurduePhD

Teague had a weird semi-smirk thing or something.  I don’t know how one can look smug in defeat (well, actually, I do — Calipari’s postgame presser), but Teague looked smug. Weird.

I love the view from the stands where you see everyone jump up and scream. As a displaced Hoosier, I watched the game with my family at a local restaurant that had the game on. The place was nearly empty and as that last shot went in, I jumped up and screamed a big YES with the fist pump! A startled patron later said that I was a either a Hoosier fan or I really Hated Kentucky. I simply said ‘Yes’

  • Dr. Richard Kimble

Is it just me, or does Fish sound an awful lot like Doc Brown from “Back to the Future” when that shot goes in?

    1.21 Gigowatts???

This is as good a place to post this as any, I guess: that was the best Dick Vitale game I’ve heard in awhile.  Time after time he made insightful points and predictions; he was on the Terrence Jones disappearance before anyone else, he was begging for the ball to go to Zeller, he was critical of IU’s sloppiness, and he was right about IU needing to hit 3’s.  And he only mentioned Coach Knight twice, although he did still mention the building name thing.  Ah well.

Maybe the atmosphere brought out the best in him too, but whatever it was, I was pleasantly surprised to see he can still add a lot to a telecast as an analyst.

  • Lahart1974

I am 55 and have been a Hoosier fan for many years. My brother lives in Denver, you are not alone. I remember the glory days and this ranks at the top of the greatest wins. What Coach Crean is doing is bringing back what IU basketball is about. He will bring young men to Bloomington who are not only players, but good young men and citizens. We will be proud once again to belong to the Hoosier Nation. Go Big Red. Don’t know what will we do when Don Ficher retires.

  • Leifmelvin

If you look behind the bench. Jeremy Hollowell was stopped by security when he attempted to rush the court Jaquan Lyle as well. He’s in the red IU sweatshirt …foreshadowing.. YUP!

Nice.  I was hoping a vid like that would surface; reminds me of the video that featured reactions around the country to Landon Donovan scoring the World Cup goal.

  • Tjdennis

i have watched this clip about twenty times now and will probably keep watching it until the notre dame game saturday. I wish we had played the final 6 minutes like we had played the first 34 minutes and we wouldn’t have had to rely on watford making the buzzer beating three to win the game. We forgot about team as well as feeding zeller in the post. Overall it feels good to win this game knowing that we could have played a lot better. i hope that we bring the kind of energy to all of our other games that we brought to this one.

I totally agree.  He was downright tolerable.

This clip makes me so happy.  It reminds me of when I visited my sister in Bloomington back in 2002 as a high school junior.  I was riding the Bloomington Shuttle from the Indy airport to B-town and they had the IU v. Duke game on the radio, with the legendary Don Fischer calling it.  As we pulled up to the IMU, Duke’s last shot rattled out and IU sealed the upset.  That moment and the ensuing elite 8 game I watched on campus sealed my decision to attend IU.  It’s the best decision I ever made and Saturday night’s W reaffirmed that. God bless Indiana University and the Hoosier nation!!!
