Decision on the horizon for Jeremy Hollowell

by in Recruiting | March 16th, 2011

Update: According to Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star, Hollowell will choose between Cincinnati, Indiana, Ohio State and Purdue.

One of the recruits that could push Indiana’s class into the top spot nationally for 2012 is Lawrence Central forward Jeremy Hollowell.

And it appears, via his Twitter, that the 6-7, top 40 junior is closing in on a decision:

The AAU season begins with the IndyBall.com Shootout in Indianapolis on April 8, although it’s unclear if Hollowell’s 17-and-under Eric Gordon All-Stars team will participate in that event, which college coaches cannot attend.

Looks like Buss is recruiting him pretty hard–that’s got to help.

  • Anonymous

Any idea when the first confirmed event for the EG All-Stars is? We need a decision countdown!!

Nice to see Buss and the others continuing the recruiting push. Loved seeing the kids talk about being the new Fab 5 the other night. Or as Buss put it, the “super six”. Looks like Austin and Yogi are also pushing for Harris and Hollowell.

  • N71

I can’t imagine he’d want to go anywhere more than IU. It’s a legandary local program on the rise, new facilities, and several of the very best players in the country, who are also your freinds are recruiting you to play along side them to potentially win and national championship in a state where you could live your life out as a legend. You also fit perfectly in the class that has a 1, 2, 4, and 5 and needs an NBA type 3. mmm…not sure what would top that.

  • Joe B

Definitely would be a big, no HUGE, get. No 1 rated recruiting class doesn’t directly put any W’s in the column but it definitely puts the rest of the college basketball nation on notice and high alert. My ultimate wish is that we bring in Hollowell and someone else in ’11(Traylor) to help immediately. Hope its not one or the other…

  • http://www.insidethehall.com/ Alex Bozich

    It’s run by Indiana Elite.

  • MillaRed

Crean’s had his critics. But if he lands Hollowell Coach isn’t going anywhere for a long time. We’re talking a top 5 IU class of all-time if not the best. It should be interesting.

I’m still thinking that between Harris and Hollowell, one will go to Purdue, and one will go to IU. Although, I wouldn’t be shocked if Harris went to MSU either.

  • RobD

Yeah, but IU’s athletic department actually policies its compliance with NCAA rules, and it doesn’t let its kids sell their gear, and Bloomington car dealerships don’t loan kids cars for days with no questions asked, and IU players don’t get free deals on tats. So there’s that.

  • RobD

If Hollowell goes to IU Harris goes to MSU. Bet.

I suggest you take a look at Texas’ recruits, they have 1 commit for 2012….Cameron Ridley. They may have a lot of top rated targets, but so far just one verbal. Of Rivals 5 star players listed in their 2012 rankings; IU has 2, Baylor, Duke, Texas, Arizona all have 1, and Birch (Pitt) is moving up to 2011. So yeah, right now Perea, Ferrell, Patterson, and Jurkin is the top class. Harris and/or Hollowell will only help that ranking. Sure someone might go on a recruiting run and pass us this summer, but right now IU has the best in 2012.

Lets not wrap Matta and his team with this Tressel Business. I am not a OSU fan, but Matta deserves a little more than that.

More so Sunday night and Monday when the Fab 5 doc was on. Without going back and looking at their twitter feeds, I think Etherington said something about how he hopes the doc inspired Harris to join and make a new fab 5. Than he added that Hollowell should be a part of it too. Then Buss and Yogi got involved, calling it the super six.

  • hoosierincbus

You need to get twitter HH

  • HoosierMike

I have not seen either Hollowell or Harris play, but from what I have read, Harris seems to be the better player, if only by a little bit. In that case, are Crean and staff hoping to sign Harris first and then see what Hollowell wants to do and are they nervous that if they get Hollowell, they may lose Harris? In that case, do they talk with these kids or just let things happen?

I am assuming you take a highly rated player any chance you get because there are no guarantees. I would be ecstatic with either player, but curious if anyone knows how a coaching staff handles this situation? It is unlikely they sign both, so I would guess they just hope to get one. Is it greedy to want both!?

  • Plane1972

Yeah, the IU alternative for Harris seems to be MSU and Hollowell is OSU. Not sure how Purdue is in the mix for either of these guys.

  • 2012please

I like the Sick Six better than Super Six.

  • IUeconAlum

Would love to see Jeremy in an Indiana uniform.

There seems to be a legitimate chance of Hollowell going to Purdue, but doesn’t seem to be the case for Harris. He would likely be MSU or Louisville

  • HoosierFromCt

Hahaha, so true, hoosierincbus. I was anti-twitter just before the Yogi announcement. I signed up just so I can get instant updates because I was driving during the announcement. Then I started to follow all of our recruits. Seeing all of the “Fab 5″ and “Supper Six” talk the other night made my day, better yet, it made my season.

  • MillaRed

Not sure where you got that out my post. That makes no sense at all.

It has been discussed in the last month how the recruiting picture affects CTCs status over the next few years. Because when you just look at the record, well lets not go there.

The 2012 class is already fantastic. With Hollowell its just nasty and the wins will come hard and fast.

  • http://www.twitter.com/GBuc12 BaseballBuc

Pretty sure Hollowell and OSU backed off of each other considerably a while back. Would be shocked if Hollowell ended up there.

  • Anonymous

would definitely like to land tyshaun prince 2.0> sign him up

  • MillaRed

I hear you. With all of those you listed I still think maybe top 5 in 2012. When considering what we have gone through the last 4 years, it may be the “most important” class we’ve ever had. With Cody being the most important recruit.

It’s all blog speak I know. But it’s fun to talk about these great players that are on the way to Btown.

  • MillaRed

I think Harris could be a one and done and I don’t see that in Hollowell. Therefore when I measure one vs. the other I think it’s a wash. Personally I don’t think we will be Final Four ready in 2012 anyway, so I prefer Hollowell and the 3-4 years he brings to the table.

  • Anonymous

I would think that as of right now Louisville may be in a better position to land Harris than MSU. There hasn’t been a lot of talk about state lately and he has made a trip or two to go see the cardinals. Louisville is also looking a lot better as of late in comparison on the court.

  • LTTelamon

I love Hollowell. I’m not saying this to criticize Harris, who is a fantastic player in his own right, but if you have a chance to get a commitment from a kid this talented, you have to take it.

  • Plane1972

I stand corrected and would be pretty heartbroken to see Hollowell in West Lafayette. I want Purdue to get their players and stay strong to rekindle the national rivalry IU-Purdue used to have, but not the recruits we go head to head on.

Mo Creek was making a decent little impact before the injury.

  • Kelin Blab

IU is not recruiting McGary anymore

  • The_Hall_Monitor

i didnt really like mcgary after in his interview he liked shooting threes

  • Anonymous

I remember a pair that played that way–Buckner and Wilkerson. I think some color commentator once said during a game that they both played aggressive offense even when the other team had the ball.

  • Anonymous

I think it happened around the time OSU signed two top 50 (depending on rankings) players at his position last fall.

  • Anonymous

He was offered free tickets to see two top-10 teams play, doesn’t mean he’s going to Purdue.

  • Anonymous

Was this as ridiculous to type as it was to read?

  • N71

I’m a parent and IU grad and if my child was happy at Purdue then I would support it. I wouldn’t jam my kid to go where I went simply because it’s where I went. That seems knuckleheaded.

  • Casey B.

Haha…yeah – his parents are only letting him strongly consider IU. But there’s NO WAY he’ll sign. They’re just letting him waste time taking visits and fielding calls from IU coaches. It’s all a charade.

  • Kelin Blab

I think we wanted to see if he would declare for 2011 and he didn’t or couldn’t so we moved on. Not totally crushed by it.

  • Kelin Blab

Would anyone be upset if we got Hollowell but not Harris? I am in the camp of landing one and not the other is still a GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT top 5 class. Three kids in the top 25. I would love for Harris to come too but I would really like to see a Traylor type addition to the 2011 class or Young or Goff and finish the 2012 class.

Are you one of these “Harris Insiders”?

Does anyone know what our status is with Maurice Aniefiok?

  • http://www.insidethehall.com/ Alex Bozich

I don’t see anything materializing there.

Unless Harris develops Eric Gordon range and packs on 20 lbs of muscle over the next 2 years (neither being out of the realm of possibilities), I don’t think he’ll be one and done.

I just think any undersized shooting guard like Harris has to be pure from the NBA 3-point line and has to be able to guard 6-6/6-7 shooting guards.

  • Anonymous

I think that’s a given that most of us would be happy with either guy. They’re both amazing talents who seem like good guys.

  • Anonymous

Harris playing basketball and football at Indiana would be sick

That ’89 class with the Grahams, Calbert, Nover, Leary and Funderburke was pretty awesome. What is interesting about that class is that Calbert was not as heralded as most of the others. Sometimes the best recruits end up being the guys you sign latest!

  • Anonymous

I’d be ecstatic with one of them. I’d be unable to speak for a couple days if we got both. I don’t know how realistic that is, but if you add Hollowell to the ’12 class, that would be the best class we’ve had in 20 years.
