Video: First look at 2014 commit Trey Lyles

The following video popped up on YouTube last week and unlike many of the videos we post, it’s not a traditional highlight reel full of dunks and slick passes. It is, however, a nice mix of footage from the third high school game of 2014 Indianapolis Tech freshman Trey Lyles. Tech lost the game, 56-42 to Carmel, on Dec. 4.

The 6-9 Lyles committed to Indiana back on September 26 and is considered one of the top five prospects nationally in his class.

Can’t hardly wait for this young man to get to Bloomington. Seems like a great kid and a great basketball player. Thanks Coach Crean.

Blows my mind that he’s only 15. Unreal.

It’s nice to see some footage of Trey. He seems to be doing a little of everything on the floor: banging in the post, pulling up on jump shots, and even bringing the ball up the floor. What really seems to be impressive is his awareness of where to be on the floor. His dad said he was a student of the game and it shows. I know it’s only a highlight reel but he seems to put himself in positions on the floor that keeps him involved in the game. It is amazing thinking that he is only a freshman as you watch this.

Special player – build and athleticism like Durant…the future looks bright. Consistency at the top level with a tradition like IU makes it happen….now if we could get a banger in 11 we can start that climb up to the top …..

I was really impressed by his ball handling skills too, he seemed very comfortable bringing the ball of the floor. Something you don’t find too often in big men.

And God spoke to his editor children, and said “Let no cheesy production effect go unused.”

I was laughing at that too. Did you catch that “The Franchise” had 19 point?

Agreed – can we get a birth certificate? The craziest thing is how comfortable and coordinated he is at that size and age. No freshman in high school should be 6’9 and used to it.

19 point? Maybe he has antlers.

I can’t stop laughing. I’m going to guess that the student who edited that video isn’t on the honor roll!

I heard that one of the video editors from the movie Avatar worked on this video.
