Indiana head coach Tom Crean met with the media on Friday to introduce Steve McClain as an assistant coach and Drew Adams as Director of Operations/Video Coordinator. Crean was also asked about the recruiting impact of Cook Hall, NCAA Tournament expansion, the success of Butler, Indiana’s offseason progress and the status of Maurice Creek.

Watch and listen to Crean’s thoughts in the embedded media players below:

great insight in this interview as to the “brand' he wants and how it translates a little inot player recruiting.

I have been watching the Capital Classic all-star game. Olapido was a one person highlight film in the first half. If we could get a video clip of his put back jam at the end of the 1st half I think it will make us all happy

Good advice for Indiana fans….” don' t have patience, have perspective…..” makes a lot of sense. Patiences makes you wait, and apparently Crean and Indiana fans don't want to do that….

Good thoughts on Butler doing it the old IU way which is a point I have made before. There success just makes Crean work harder.

I saw it last week and was impressed with VO, but didn't see anything new, just the same really great athleticism that he has. Looking forward to his arrival.

Kelin, wathced all of the videos before I read any of the comments and out of all of the things that Crean said the ” don't have patience, have perspective ” comment and the ” Butler and another in state school are winning by doing it the way that IU used to do it ” comment were what jumped out at me the most also and struck me as a great way to put things into “perspective”. I also liked the part of that one where he said ” we have to get that identity back”

I don't know about you but I thought the line about Creek probably having a picture of Tim Garl, with a fake moustache on it, on his wall to throw darts at and that he needs a few more of them was pretty funny.

In my opinion these are just a few more snipets of why Crean is the right man to get us back to where we all want to be. A lot of the Crean doubters and bashers would be well served to stop and think about the ” don't have patience, have perspective ” comment before they are so quick to bitch and bash next time. That is if they are true IU fans anyway and truly want what is best for the program.

Nobody let them leave—enroll them in Bloomington South for the remainder of their high school careers….no, wait, that didn't work either.

  • garyindiana

please tell me that this is true. it's little 5 right now so i'm sure bloomington is the town to be in today (i'm sure that was the plan). i heard it was raining in b-town today though.

I like the Creek quote also. I am glad to see he is ahead of schedule and in a odd/bad/ok way, him getting injured early in the year gives him more time for a full recovery. I hope like hell he is 100% before the season kicks off. His Kentucky performance is what I hung onto all season and I just believe he was worth 3-4 more wins this past season…we beat NW in the tourney, Ill on the road, and Purdue at home with Creek……

3-4 more wins at least, probably more than that IMHO. When you see how other teams, who were in a much better situation to be able to deal with something like this, were affected one has to believe Mo not getting hurt would have changed a lot more things than just the total wins too. I know some people will think that there is no way one player getting hurt can affect a lot of other things. My guess is those are fans that are not bad fans but probably fans that have never played or coached a whole lot. Those of us that have understand all too well how much something like Mo getting hurt affects so many other aspects of the game. I believe it affected numerous things with the first things coming to mind being teammate development, coaching decisions and recruiting. Cut it any way you want to but with where we are at right now as a team more W's means easier recruiting and only sheds more light on what a difficult job Crean has had ever since he signed on the dotted line. People say yea he should be working his ass off for the outrageous amount of money he is making but I say to them people that they should remember that a lot of other coaches would not have touched our HC job for that amount of money but CTC did because he fullly understood what ” IT'S INDIANA ” means.

Thought the quote from Crean that is on the wall in Cook Hall, in very large letters and justifiably so, further illustrated that he ” gets it ” and is the right man for the job.

Thanks Ohio …. that is the one I am talking about , over a 6'9″ guy.

I think the loss of Creek last year hurt Rivers the most. I really do think he was a different player when Creek was playing. Yes he still couldn't shoot free throws but he was getting to the lane and the line and causing problems for the other defenses. Once Creek went down he played ok for a couple games and then literally fell apart.

Very impressed with Oladipo and I've only seen one little video. Looks like he can handle the ball well and obviously has ups.

Actually starting to look forward to this season. Would be great to hear about a nice commit for 2011 but I've pretty much given up on any help this season as far as new talent that we don't know about.

We have the pieces right now if healthy and well coached. Time to coach these kids up and get them playing together as a team. If that happens look out we could be borderline tournament worthy. Thank God it stayed at 64 teams (technically 68).
