Not to be Donald Downer here, but there is a poll on espn's men's bball page questioning the direction Tom Crean is taking our program. Would anyone mind playing devil's advocate and explain to me how Crean has further damaged our program? Or maybe even sustained the damage? I came up with nothing.
  • One argument would be that Crean is not exactly the squeaky clean, white knight he's sometimes portrayed to be. You could say that oversigning itself is a somewhat questionable move morally. I would respond that we should see how that works itself out before calling him out on it.

Also, maybe another idea would be that Crean did something wrong by cleaning house as throughly as he did. I would say mounting evidence suggests that is not true.

Another might be that Crean is not taking the program in the proper direction competitively. Again, I'd respond it's way too early to tell.

Also guys, your new header and titles look very much like Coca Cola logos. Big new sponsor?
  • BobbyDigital
What do you mean by Crean not taking the program in the proper direction competitively?

Can this comic move on and maybe have a comic about, oh I don't know, this year's team? I'm not really interested in seeing 8 trillion comics about last year.
  • Taskmaster75
Think espn wanted to cheer up Marquette fans after their loss to Tenn. by giving them a poll to bash Tom Crean with.....
  • Kelin Blab
I can't find anything on Crean that is negative at this point. There is always some nitpicking that will go on....The oversigning thing, is done all too often and the spot light is on IU because we have started from ground zero.

Crean wins 12-15 games next year no one will give a crap about the oversigning issues if anything goes down..........unless it has to do with Tom Pritchard....then I will have a problem....

you stole my idea, me and my dad made this same joke when we were walking through The Hall when I was back for a game.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD CARTOONIST!!! hahahahaha
  • Pat
what is the issue with the oversigning thing i dont see the problem?
    explain it to me
  • cooper
the only thing I can think of is some of the on court play that I don't really think is Crean's fault. Looking from the outside one may say the crazy number of turnovers that really aren't getting any better, lack of rebounding and getting blown out by some teams that aren't great. I think people are more looking at the name IU instead of the talent level, because we all know we are not very talented this year.
  • JerryCT
Taylor- I agree with you. We can see some humor in last year's team BUT we really NEED some humor about this years team to keep us upbeat
  • Matt
    Hahaha, nice work ShoJo!
  • MikeyD
I aint no cartoonist, but this is weak. It looks like some child labor sheep sheerers in a big pile of wool. okie dokie
  • MikeyD
Also...the players from the 06-07 team are the very same ones on the 08-09 team...that ain't real.
  • Reggie
Everyone says stuff about the oversigning issue, but who's to say that Crean didn't inform some of the players in recruiting (possibly Jobe) that they are only guaranteed a one year scholarship and can play their way to earn one for the second year. If he made that really clear and the specific player(s) is not performing, I see no problem with helping him find another school and making room for a more productive player.
  • MikeyD
Excellent point, and I believe that is most likely the case. Take Jobe for instance...I would assume that a player such as Jobe would find it a great pleasure to be a scholarship player at IU for a season. Could he remain as a practice team player should his scholly get pulled? Look what Crean has had to deal with. There might not neccessarily need to be an exeption to "the rule", but it may just be a neccessary evil for the man, the program and the institution (of basketball) for a season. Wish we we privey to the going ons.
  • Pat
I hope Jobe leaves...how can you have a work in project when he is a JUCO transfer two years is not enough time
  • hoosiergal
Though I do see the humor in this, I can't help but think of DJ and a few others that don't deserve being lumped with some the other members of the team.
