IU basketball lands commitment from German big man Clemens Sokolov

IU basketball has an 11th scholarship player for the 2026-27 roster.

The Hoosiers have landed a commitment from German big man Clemens Sokolov, Inside the Hall has confirmed.

The news was first reported by Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com.

Sokolov, who will be a freshman next season, most recently played for Wuerzburg in Germany’s ProB league, according to Eurobasket.com.

He is listed at 6-foot-11 by Eurobasket with a date of birth of May 25, 2007. He averaged 6.4 points, five rebounds and 0.5 blocked shots in 22.6 minutes per game while shooting 53.5 percent from the floor.

In the 2024-25 season for Wuerzburg, he averaged 5.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game.

Sokolov is viewed as a long-term developmental prospect who could compete for backup minutes next season. He had seven double-figure scoring games last season for Wuerzburg, including 18 points and 13 rebounds in his most recent game on March 28 against Fellbach.

He also has experience playing for Germany in the FIBA U17 World Cup (2024) and FIBA U18 World Cup (2025).

In the FIBA U17 World Cup in Turkey, Sokolov averaged two points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

In the FIBA U18 World Cup in Serbia, he averaged 2.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

He also played for ULM in the U18 adidas Next Gen Euro League in February 2025, averaging 5.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Sokolov joins an IU basketball roster for the 2026-27 season that also includes Markus Burton, Bryce Lindsay, Darren Harris, Jaeden Mustaf, Aiden Sherrell, Samet Yigitoglu, Trent Sisley, Prince-Alexander Moody, Vaughn Karvala and Trevor Manhertz.
