We’ve just seen this setup on play eight: Young and Kaleb Wesson double team Morgan as Langford has the ball on the right wing. Smith has plenty of space up top:
He opts to come set a ball screen for Langford:
As Morgan has a hand up on the back side, Langford hangs up for a second, wondering if he should pass (or maybe shoot?). Smith begins to cut to the basket:
Off his indecision, Langford thinks Smith is still on the wing, and passes it to no one as the Hoosiers turn the ball over:
Langford is a high-level scorer, but his facilitation to teammates isn’t on the same level. Smith actually made the right call on the cut here — and is at his best in the half court when he’s cutting to an open basket and doesn’t have to put the ball on the deck — but he wasn’t rewarded here.
