2016 Hoosier Hysteria streaming details

  • 10/18/2016 10:13 am in

Hoosier Hysteria, the annual tip-off to the Indiana basketball season, takes place this Saturday in Bloomington as Assembly Hall doors will open at 5 p.m. ET with the event beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.

If you’re unable to make it to Assembly Hall, the Big Ten Network will be providing digital coverage via its streaming service, BTN Plus.

BTN Plus already has a page set up for Hysteria, which also has links to sign up for service in order to watch the event. According to the broadcast page on BTN’s site, the stream will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be student produced with Ben Wittenstein, Edward Koton and Olivia Ray on the call.

Fans can access the stream via a BTN Plus subscription, which is offered in two packages: school-specific or conference. The school-specific pass is $9.95 monthly or $79.95 annually and the conference pass is $14.95 monthly or $119.95 annually.

A subscription to BTN Plus is not included with a subscription to Big Ten Network.

Indiana’s two exhibition games — Nov. 1 vs. Hope College and Nov. 5 vs. Bellarmine — will be broadcast on BTN Plus. Two regular season games, Nov. 19 vs. Liberty and Dec. 22 vs. Austin Peay, will also be on BTN Plus.

Indiana players will sign autographs at Hoosier Hysteria beginning at 5:15 p.m. ET. Fans will receive a free 2016-2017 calendar poster to have signed. Each player will sign one poster per person and no outside items are allowed.

  • Message to the moderator/Mr. Bozich. Hello and thanks for this. Just as a heads up, of late I have been unable to read the headline of the latest article posted on this website. For maybe a week or so, the top banner or whatever with the ITH logo and assorted links basically cuts off the top inch or so of my screen, and I can only see the very bottom of the headlines. (and can’t read them; on a pc) Not sure if anyone else has this problem. Just thought I’d mention it. A minor issue, but I thought you might like to know. Thanks again.

#6 ranked Hoosier fan on the planet.

It used to be just HH and 2/3 games that were streamed only, now it’s HH and 4 games, including two regular season games! That is also two 1-month subscriptions to cover all of that at a total cost of $20 dollars! That’s almost extortion. It is most definitely ALL about the money and absolutely NO CARING about the fans.
I call for a boycott for those games. DO NOT buy a subscription.

IF the Student-U can get their film to BTN itself, they will play it on a day or two delay. That would be good enough for me.

  • Clear your browser cache.

  • Well that was a quick response. The cache clearing didn’t work. I’ll go ahead and send the screenshot per your request. No problem. And thank you!

  • I hear you, but I don’t feel so strongly that I would actually boycott the games. Now, if I could cancel my DirecTV Sunday Ticket in protest against the Colts’ stank, then that’s something I could get behind.

  • They do this every year. I don’t mind too much since they provide access to non-televised games, but don’t appreciate that they simply don’t televise the regular season games and try to charge extra for them. Especially as they stick one on their schedule a month later, to get people to remain subscribed. Not very cool. But it could be worse. When people at corporate begin their always-predictable attempts to crapifiy this and/or try to charge more, I’m done.

  • I am Baby Cakes

WatchESPN is free. FREE. I can watch SEC and ACC crap all day. Gotta pay extra for Big Ten. What a joke.

  • TomJameson

“Technically” you’re not boycotting the games. They (IU) aren’t losing any revenue, you would be “just” not watching the games on the stream. Most likely they will be shown an a day or two delay on BTN. But I know what you mean.

I have to up my subscription level to DirecTV to get the BTN channels, so I feel a little taken advantage of when I’m charged for a game on BTN2go. Like double-taxation, it just isn’t right. lol

I promise that I’m not an extremist. I’ve folded in the past, but not this year. I’m just going to miss those games unless they are played later on BTN.

  • TomJameson

Exactly my point! I’ll listen to the IU games on the radio, if they’re playing somewhere.

  • HardRockHoosier

I’m with you.. I have BTN, but I am not going to ‘up’ for BTN-Plus.

  • TomJameson

I know. Like what they did by adding one more restricted game to extend the subscription “need” to two months instead of one (nearly doubling their subscription rates for those two months). They will keep doing this until they realize it’s not as profitable as televising the games and charging the advertisers.

I respect your opinion though. I’m just personally tired of paying the extortion.

  • Maybe in some past seasons I might have been willing to hold out for a later recording. In fact, in past seasons I _did_ hold out. I’m just too darn excited about seeing this season get started.

  • Piker

I appreciate having BTN. Not sure how many games would not be televised if not for BTN. I also believe they are not rolling in dough like some networks. I will pay the 20 and enjoy the stream. Sounds like this type of broadcast is supporting the students too.

  • Hoosier Fanatic

BTN has alternate channels that only get used for occasional football games. I don’t understand why they don’t get utilized in cases like this when mass amounts of IU fans would be watching

  • Thanks to everybody who has emailed in. The issue is occurring for those who are using ad blockers on their browsers, it appears.

We are looking into a potential fix, but would encourage you to consider whitelisting this site if you are using an ad blocker. The site and all of its content (with the exception of the forum) are free to access because of advertising revenue. Without that revenue, we are unable to do things like cover road games, the NCAA tournament, Big Ten media day or go on trips like the one we took to Montreal back in 2014. Thanks.

  • Lance76

Someone suggested a year or so ago that college basketball for all teams be a flat fee as a package. I am in favor of this so I don’t get held up everytime I turn around. Something needs to be done to provide the consumer what they want at a fair fee.

  • CreamandCrimson

It’s easy to understand. Instead of putting this event (plus the exhibition games and a couple of regular season games) on an alternate channel, they put it on BTN Plus and make some money from IU fans that are desperate enough to pay for the content. I don’t like it or agree with it but the reasons behind it are transparent and easy to understand, in my opinion.

  • TomJameson

I can respect your opinion, but pretty sure BTN makes a ton of money. Remember, they charge other carriers (like my DirecTV) a fee to carry their channel. BTN is NOT hurting.

Also, all games “can” be televised on BTN … the regular network. They choose to put a variety of games on BTN2go, on what is to most a very bad stream (although they’ve improved a bit). If the Student-U at any school gets their film to regular BTN, then they will air it.
The progression is that there were a couple of games streamed only. Now they’re up (for IU anyway) 4 games and Hoosier Hysteria over a 2 month period. If you streamed ONLY the games, it would still be a 2-mth subscription. To me it is a blatant (successful) attempt to make more money. Now, I’m all about somebody making money, but enough is enough, for me anyway.

  • TomJameson

Just curious if the other B1G schools had the same problem with their games being streamed only by BTN2go, and it looks like most are in the same circumstance, with a few notable exceptions.
Just for comparison purposes. Interesting to note is that Nebraska appears to have their very own “Huskers Sports Network”.

    Iowa(4), Wis(2), MD(1), Mich(3), MSU(3), OSU(1) –only need 1-mth subscriptions.
    ILL(4), Minn(7), Neb(4), NU(5), PU(2), IU(5), PSU(3) Rutgers(4) — 2-mth subscriptions.

I guess we’re all getting hosed, some just more than others. 🙂

  • HuntinHoosier86

I, for one, will not be paying extra for BTN Plus to watch the games. I’ll just pretend like it’s the 50’s again and I’m Shooter from “Hoosiers” listening to the game on the radio. Seemed to get him excited enough, so why not me?!

  • dwdkc

Well, BTN2Go screwed up and bunched Hoosier Hysteria, the exhibition games and one of the two regular season games within a month. I’ll compromise and go the one month, and sit out the Austin Peay game. However–is there a delayed stream available, or do you have to watch live only?

  • Should be able to watch a replay.

  • Vernon Aldrich

I agree with TomJameson’s sentiment entirely, but gotta go with you dwdkc for the winning solution… 😉

  • Tcuomo

I recommend TuneIN Radio. They have an app you can download on your phone or go to their website to listen to on your computer. The content is free and you don’t need a subscription. You’re going to want to look for the Indiana Hoosiers Sports Network. I don’t live in Indiana anymore, so I rely on it quite often when football or basketball aren’t televised or I’m traveling. The bonus is you get Don Fischer.

  • Kendall Polston

Anyone know what recruits may be at Hoosier Hysteria?

  • Outoftheloop

Back in the old channel 4 days, the answer was 100%! Every game was on live local TV! Including the Exhibitions! However, IU Football was largely shut-out. AD Glass gets a great check for IU from the BTN. We will never go back!

  • bleeding crimson

Alex, I have the same problem….the banner is just cutting off about half of the article title.

  • Piker

I appreciate the resistance but resistance is futile…sorry could not help it…they got us ever since cable started…so it is not just BTN. I am a NW IU fan and we only had channel 26 the begger channel for select games. I think they folded since BTN took over because all the money they made was from IU fans pledging support. I use to wear my fingers raw trying to find radio I could hear

  • Tcuomo

Not Kris Wilkes. Alex said on the podcast he is working on compiling a list.

  • Outoftheloop

What is your source on Wilkes not coming to HH? If I were going to go to IU that is where I would be!

  • Tcuomo

Justin Albers who I would consider reliable. He tweeted it today. Wilkes will be out of town due to events not related to recruiting.

  • You know, I’m gonna pay the $10 just to know as soon as possible if TB is out of that walking boot.

  • TomJameson

That is a bonus. Love listening to Don Fischer!

  • Kwang

I have 100Mbps fiber optic internet, but still the streaming sucks. I tend to agree with the boycott idea. I paid for the last three years and kicked myself for it.

  • SilentBob

I’ll bare the 25 seconds it takes for Alex or someone else to tweet it lol

  • Missing Moye

Thanks, I was wondering what was going on. I’ve whitelisted the site and even clicked on about 7 ads, just because.

  • Old_Time_Hoosier

Then why do you keep paying for it? I cut the cable cord a year and a half ago. Saved enough money to cover my car payments AND all my gas. If I really want to watch the game, it’s on at the local neighborhood bar, and all I have to do is buy a beer or two at $3 a pop.

  • Old_Time_Hoosier

Best sports radio announcer in the biz! Turn on the TV, turn off the sound, listen to Fish. Doesn’t get better than that!

  • randy

Is there a list of recruits expected to be on campus for this event?

  • John D Murphy

BTN is just white labeled FOX. The B1G’s total TV package dwarfs all the other conferences and the B1G gets to negotiate twice again before the SEC.

  • John D Murphy

They weren’t on in Utah (where I now live). Of the three games on BTN+ last year, at least two were rebroadcast on BTN. Hoosier Hysteria highlights were on YouTube within an hour of it being done.

  • Yeah, there’s that too. Come on, I’m trying to come up with ways to justify the money. I’m too darn impatient to be waiting for replays.

  • SilentBob

Hahaha I can’t let ya off that easy Mark lol. Jk. Spend ya money hoewever ya want, but I’m not buying again until it’s a far better product. I’ll trust that to the reviews of the people that buy now and in the future, but I bought two years in a row, and it was crap.

Honestly brought more frustration and bitterness than enjoyment lol. Rather just grab some canned goods and spend on gas to attend HH in person as far as that’s concerned. As far as cupcake games, you can get tickets pretty cheap for those. All in all, point being, when I watch sports, I want to enjoy the sport.

  • I should clarify: being in SoCal, perhaps my perspective is a little different. I take what I can get sometimes. 🙂 I sure wish I could grab a few canned goods and head to Bloomington.

  • SilentBob

Fiiinnne. You’re off the hook lol. Hopefully your money goes towards making new the product better in the future

  • I like to do my part…

  • Kwang

I pay $50 a month for the fastest internet because I like it. Doesn’t have anything to do with cable. I was talking about the quality of BTN streaming.
