Juwan Morgan moves up official visit to Indiana

Class of 2015 Waynesville (Mo.) forward Juwan Morgan, who had been scheduled to take an official visit to Bloomington later this month, has moved his visit up to this weekend.

MoKan Elite coach Rodney Perry confirmed that change in plans for visit dates in a text message to Inside the Hall. Morgan will also move up his official visit to Washington to the weekend of Sept. 12-14.

The 6-foot-9 Morgan, who is rated the No. 87 prospect nationally according to the 247Composite, had planned to make his visit with AAU teammate and friend Shake Milton on the weekend of Sept. 26-28.

The change of plans for Morgan will not have an affect on Milton’s visit date, according to Perry.

Morgan, who visited Vanderbilt last weekend, is expected to sign in November. He took an unofficial visit to Bloomington back in June.

“It was a great experience, all of the coaches were real nice, real good people,” he told Inside the Hall. “It felt like I was already a part of it with how they were treating and talking to me and with all of the players, how I fit in with them and everything.”

Morgan was named the most improved player in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) where he averaged 10.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for MoKan Elite.

Any reason given for why the date change?

  • ForeverIU

Maybe he wants to commit to us before we make Stephen Zimmerman an offer he can’t refuse, lol. Juwan has offers from Ivy League schools including Harvard, sounds like a smarty.

I really hope we get this kid and his AAU teammate.

It’s clearly very, very early, but April now in a walking boot. I think we’ve seen this before…

  • OhioHoosier

I thought we weren’t in his top choices

  • ForeverIU

I’m not sure, but we scheduled an in-home visit with him (I think Sept. 18?), and my impression is that he’s “warm” to our program.

  • milton, mcquaid and morgan — that’d be a great 2015 class. pretty realistic, too. make it happen, ctc & co.

  • IUBizmark

He just had his visit to Vanderbilt on the 28th of August. Some are thinking he’ll chose them over IU now. There’s no saying for certain. Either he has his mind made up and wants to declare OR he changed his mind and wants to get it over with.
Personally I don’t see it as a good thing that his visit is no longer with Shake, but we shall see. His last visit is now Stanford on Oct. 3rd.

I’d say that in home visit is IU’s last ditch effort to get Zimmerman to take a visit to IU. At this point to call it a long shot to land Zimmerman would be generous.

I wouldn’t read too much into the walking boot without more info. Hanner was in a boot for a lot of the season last year, but he stilled played. I think the training staff are taking extra precaution with ankle/foot injuries outside of workouts and practice. I’m no doctor so this could be bs 😉

    Mmm mmm mmm.

  • VAHoosier

Would love to get Morgan, but have to wonder how our signing Holt might influence things. BTW, Holt had slightly better numbers in the same AAU league as Morgan. We have every reason to be excited to have Emmit on the team.

  • Hoosier Hall

Or Kyle Guy, Bryant Crawford… There are several guys I would be happy with.

  • SCHoosier

He told another site that he needed to get to the schools earlier because of some of the core classes he was missing with the later dates. Given the great academic schools he’s considering..academics is obviously a priority for Morgan.

  • indigodoc

    Thanks for the info!

no worries, unfortunately for someone ‘things have a way of working themselves out’

  • Geoff_85

The boot has been deemed precautionary. Probably a tweak somewhere in the foot or ankle and just taking all necessary (or perhaps even unnecessary lol) precautions.

  • VAHoosier

Yes, sad but true. But I was thinking more about whether IU was a less attractive landing spot for Morgan now that we have Holt in our frontcourt.

  • JJ

Agreed…Just pointing out how many of our bigs started off their careers this way in the past and none turned out well…

  • Ole Man

Hey, our last starting big to wear a walking boot ended up as a lottery pick, so maybe this is a good sign (Noah).

  • Bryce Kepner

They aren’t the same type of player. All the videos ive seen Morgan is more of a wing that can play in the post. Holt is a post player through and through

  • Benhyoung14

    Need Bryant and/or Swanigan.

  • VAHoosier

That may be true as far as it goes, but they are still front court players competing for minutes on a guard oriented team. So, yes, they would compete with one another for minutes, even though they bring different skill sets.

  • Bryce Kepner

I don’t buy it. While I understand what you are saying, I just don’t see Holt being here scaring Morgan away

  • Guest

Thomas Bryant and Isaiah Briscoe = my choices. Neither has a “short list” yet, so IU may still be on their radar, although each has a lengthy, impressive list of schools vying for their signatures on LOIs.

  • HoosierGrampy

While I’d like to see some big come on board this year, my guess is that greater efforts will be made in the 2016 group to snag a really elite player(s): Thon Maker, T.J. Leaf and Tyus Battle would = my wish list.

Kyle Guy is in the 2016 class. I’ve seen him play in person a few times and I love his game but he doesn’t factor into the 2015 discussion.
