Five-star forward Kris Wilkes takes unofficial visit to Indiana

  • 10/15/2016 4:31 pm in

Five-star North Central class of 2017 forward Kris Wilkes made the trip south from Indianapolis on Saturday for an unofficial visit to Indiana.

Prior to Indiana football’s game against No. 10 Nebraska, Wilkes was spotted on the sidelines of Memorial Stadium. Indiana basketball had a televised practice earlier in the day on BTN.

The 6-foot-8 Wilkes is down to three schools: Illinois, Indiana and UCLA.

This is his second visit to Indiana in the last two weeks as he took his official visit to Indiana the last weekend in September. Prior to the Indiana official visit, Wilkes also took official visits to Illinois and UCLA.

Wilkes, ranked the No. 18 prospect in the 247Composite, is an important prospect for the Hoosiers.

Indiana already has three commitments in the class of 2017 in Al Durham, Justin Smith and Clifton Moore, but is still in pursuit of Wilkes, point guard Tremont Waters and forward Billy Preston.

Wilkes tweeted on Oct. 7 that a decision would be “coming soon,” but hasn’t announced a date when he will announce his choice.

The early signing period begins on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

…and he didn’t even have a good game in the state championship.

I’d put George McGinnis in 3rd, but pretty far back of the first two. Too bad Oden couldn’t stay healthy, he would have been something to see.

Scruggs announced quite a while ago.. Crean’s comments were made on Saturday.. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Crean’s comments were considerably after Scruggs’ commitment.

  • HuntinHoosier86

I thought that was a VERY firm statement by CTC and I applaud him for it!

I live here in northern Clark county Indiana and my nephew played ball with Romeo up until his sophomore year (Romeo’s freshman year) and he said Romeo is FOR REAL! My nephew was great too, but was better at football and ended up playing varsity quarterback his junior year at New Albany.

Anyway, my nephew says that he talks to Romeo b/c they’re friends and it’s an understood that Duke is where he wants to go. Obviously, things can change, but apparently Duke is RL’s be-all, end-all school. So, not counting too heavily on getting him 🙁

  • upvoting for the info shared, but not the content itself. Let’s hope dook tanks early and IU runs up to the top of the rankings with an undefeated season going into the New Year. Maybe that will change his mind.

  • HuntinHoosier86

    Yeah, that would be great!

  • Very possibly, that’s what I’m thinking. Totally out of the loop on Scruggs.

  • I have no problem with it either. He wasn’t incorrect. And frankly, if a kid doesn’t really want to go to IU, then he shouldn’t be there.

  • marcusgresham

I knew I’d forget some important names. George McGinnis would be the first one.

  • HuntinHoosier86

That’s EXACTLY right! I’d rather have a 3-4 star player who’s passionate about Indiana and wanting to get better than a highly ranked recruit who is wishy-washy about IU and thinks they’re hot sh*t! Now, I’m not talking about specific people, but just generic highly ranked recruits in general.

  • Of course, nothing like a 5-start who also really wants to play for IU. Best recent example: TB. To me, that guy epitomizes what we’re looking for.

  • HuntinHoosier86

    BIG upvote from me!

  • IU Hoosiers # 34, 1979-83

Bummer to hear/read that. I hope IU gets him.

    Nice post. Thanks.

    George McGinnis? Sorry so late.

I’m sorry, but recruiting has gotten WAYYY out of control. This isn’t recruiting; this is crooning. This kid has visited, what???.. 10 times that we KNOW OF, officially and unofficially? And yet, I seem like the only one here that finds his statements, not only outrageous, but crossing a bit of a line in his statements that speak volumes (TO ME) about his character as a whole.

I know, I know, I’ve heard it all: blah blah blah “he’s only a kid with a HUGE decision to make ahead of him that will impact ETERNITY”. BS. Where ever this kid goes, as long he puts in the work, he will be NBA bound, and WE ALL KNOW IT.

Whatever. Fair enough. I’m not 6’7″ and such a physical freak of nature as Kris is (I wish). But does ANYONE else see this whole situation as a bit of a verbal slap-in-the-face with some of his comments?…As he just comes down here and single-handedly makes more headlines about HIMSELF, than about our potential THIS season, RIGHT NOW, Coming our way in weeks??? Only to talk about HIMSELF doing what’s best for HIMSELF… Even if that means thinking about HIMSELF first and not the silly fans who he has clearly noticed on their proverbial knees begging, but can forget about like yesterday’s trash??? How ironic him saying these things, knowing that nobody would speaking of him on such a platform and his LONGGG AWAITED decision, WITHOUT the fans… much less the NBA, WHERE OBVIOUSLY IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FANS. But ok. Whatever.

I’m sorry, this JUST MY PERSONAL opinion, but I trust IN OUR COACH… NOT THIS KID. THIS KID HAS SAID SOME THINGS, THAT IF HE GOES ELSEWHERE, WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER OF SUCH A WRONG BY HIM…. BECAUSE HE HAVE PUT THIS KID ON A PEDESTAL LIKE NO OTHER. YET HIS COMMENTS INFURIATE ME. JUST HOW HE WAS SETTING A TIMELINE FOR “OTHER SCHOOLS” TO BEG HIM… LIKE UK!

Look, it’s not a secret that this kid wants AS MUCH fanfare, accolades and most of all, attention to HIMSELF. Even if he picks IU, I WILL ALWAYS THINK ABOUT HOW HE WENT ABOUT IT. But then again, we have nobody to blame but us. You’ll NEVER see UK begging on Twitter like our people. Makes me throw up in my mouth because I WE ARE BETTER DAMN IT! CTC IS BETTER! I BELIEVE IN OUR COACH FIRST!!!!!!!… If this kid doesn’t pick IU, YOU WILL ALL AGREE WITH ME THEN. WATCH.

  • Spooky

    Whatever happened to, “IT’S INDIANA…. IT’S INDIANA.”????

  • Spooky

I know one thing: I’d rather watch us make the NIT EVERY YEAR, THAN BE UK’S CLONE.

  • Piker

If high school and college have to include Alford. Dropped like 40 a game as senior In HS and an all time great at IU.

  • bleeding crimson

I agree to a certain point, we all have our fav’s on recruits and who, why, etc. But CTC cooling on a recruits doesn’t seem to fit the ITHer’s they still speak their mind pretty good and regular on here….I won’t name names but like myself, Ole Man, Clyde, and I can go on. We like CTC but don’t always agree.

  • bleeding crimson

It looks as if he’s going to IU….why a second unofficial visit??? What concerns me is how are we going to even think about signing Waters and/or Preston when we are going to be over-signed by one with KW? Unless I’m wrong.

  • bleeding crimson

Where is CTC comment to read or listen to? Alex can you post it?

  • bleeding crimson

That really might not mean a thing, esp going to IU on ANOTHER visit after his officials. He probably got loads of free sponsored clothing from several schools….maybe that’s outside of NCAA regulations but still to where those colors at an IU visit and football game and than chose UCLA….that would be a load of crap and I would lose so much respect for KW.

  • bleeding crimson

Undefeated…….I love you thinking and aspirations if that was too happen I think we will have our pick’ens from here on out. Keep up the great attitude.

  • bleeding crimson

You and Clyde Escope must have been hatched together from the same egg. I like you thinking.

  • bleeding crimson

I’m glad that you got all of that off your chest…..WOW….I don’t think I was aware of all of that esp all of the visit’s. I was really sure that after this weekend he is a lock for IU but after reading your statement it really makes me wonder as well. HUMMMMM.
Make one really think about his character. Not saying he is a self-centered punk but if all of that is true and he doesn’t come to IU….well then…….

  • Lance76

Just a wild guess, but seldom is anyone 100% sure of a choice. Needed to get reinforcement to support his thought process. KW must be thinking seriously about us or would have not appeared. Another thought about UCLA is last year– only had 8,000 or so average attendance and decline from previous year.

  • Spooky

now I will get blocked for speaking the truth and when Kris Wilkes goes somewhere else, hopefully I’ll be unblocked

  • Spooky

all you have to do is read his comments on Indy star or any other site that posted his comments recently about IU

  • Spooky

again, you must not have read his recent comments… He clearly stated that he cares nothing about a fan base or proximity to his home

  • Spooky

but I’m just one person… Obviously there are way more people who think otherwise about the kid… But I believe in our coach first and foremost. I just think his comments are childish, especially when you group them with the fact that he keeps coming here just so he can speak such comments right on our own campus. like I said, once he can meet somewhere, we will find out of where his heart is… But he knows where he wants to go and he knows where he’s going to go by now

  • Lance76

Agree with you. I was aware of his comments, but his actions are IMHO speaking loudly.

  • Spooky

IMO, I give Illinois more of a chance than us… I hope I’m stupidly wrong, But there are several ties to Illinois that he likes, including several VERY CLOSE friends that are attending Illinois.

  • Spooky

He very well could be wanting to go to Illinois with that top 10 recruiting class that they have coming in, and stir things up in the Big Ten next year… you just never know with a guy that needs 9 or 10 visits to one school to make up his mind

  • Spooky

to play for us and go to school at Indiana, he will have to change his whole entire attitude… Otherwise, he’s better off going to Illinois or UCLA because we won’t put up with it

  • just for the record, I’m not saying it will happen. But it’s certainly possible!

  • bleeding crimson

I think he feels real comfortable coming to IU esp when he has been there so many times…my questions is has his folks came to any. I would be surprise if they didn’t come for the official.
