I like the way Emmitt established and maintained eye contact with whomever asked him a question. A few questions regarding the Davis accident might have been better left unasked, but I think he gave honest, thoughtful answers. So glad his first experience w/extended minutes turned out positively for him. It can do nothing but build confidence in his game. IU’s got itself a baller here!

I completely agree that some of the questions about DD could have and should have been withheld.

Also, I wanted to hear from EH as much as the next guy. However, I still have never liked the way the media at some IUMBB pressers appear
to ignore certain individuals at the podium, while seeming almost ready to soil themselves at the prospect of being able to present questions to other players.

I thought it was ridiculous here that a moderator had to step in at one point and ask for questions to be directed to NZ and RJ. Then NZ was promptly asked about EH. I don’t think this is the first time for this sort of thing: there have been other IU players at the podium that I think have been relatively ignored in press conferences over the years.

Bottom line, imo: the media at these pressers should learn to show some decorum, manners &/or empathy.

Perhaps as both the media and we see more of our team and sort of get to know them better, the questions will improve and be spread more evenly among those in the hot seats. I will bet that those who give the most thoughtful replies and who appear to be at ease in that forum will continue to get the majority of questions.
At least none of the answers started out with that cliche’ “Oh most definitely” reply. I’d like to hear them asked things like how they are adjusting to the level and pace of the game so far, what are they doing as a team to improve in-game player communications, what has been the biggest surprise to you so far as a Hoosier, how does the staff prepare you for the next game, etc.

Yes, good points. Maybe the media were just caught up in the moment and really were eager to learn more about EH, like a lot of us fans. I’m guessing that many in the media were as thrilled as us other IU fans to see EH’s good interior play. It’s a relief to see someone in an IU uniform who can capably substitute for HMP or even compete with him for minutes at the 5 spot. As others have posted, both players may benefit.

Also, I forgot to mention a couple of other good points from
your first post, the ones re: eye contact with the questioner (shows respect) and glad to see EH have a positive experience in his first extended minutes. Seems like a great kid who may just end up doing terrific things at IU!
