Davis family statement: “Devin’s condition is improving”

The family of Indiana sophomore forward Devin Davis, who was seriously injured in an accident near Memorial Stadium early Saturday morning, released a statement moments ago with some positive news.

Each member of the Davis family, his parents Tiffany, Devin Sr. and Elaine, his brothers C.J., Darius, Dorian and sisters Rayven and Daya, were named on the statement, which was sent out just before 8 p.m. on Sunday evening.

“As all parents can understand, the last 40+ hours have been difficult for us and for all of those who care about our son. Devin’s condition is improving and we know that there is a road to recovery ahead.

“We want to thank the incredible team at IU Health Bloomington Hospital for taking such great care of Devin.  We also want to express our gratitude to Coach Crean, who has been by Devin’s bedside for most of the past two days and to all of his coaches, teammates and the extended Hoosier family who have kept him in their prayers.”

Without question, DD’s health is the top priority here, and thankfully, he appears on the road to recovery. But while it may be too soon to speculate, and at the risk of sounding callous, any insight as to whether or not he’ll be able to play this season? If so, how much?

This is just awesome news….cannot wait to see DD back on the court! I think parents really appreciate Coach Tom Crean for me I am glad he is our Coach.

I just love this kid and thought all along he would be a four year, rock-steady glue guy here. Now I just hope for his quick and full recovery.

Probably won’t know for a few weeks. Head injury victims have to pass a ton of protocols before even being allowed to consider doing anything athletic.

With no announcement on state of injury everything now is speculation. I agree it would be too early for anything concrete to be announced especially considering the possibility of suffering further injury once returning to the court.

Which means at the end of this period of recovery he will have lost some conditioning. I wish him well.

Great news. I feel horrible for the family and all involved. Hopefully it happens but it will be a very emotional moment when he steps back on that court again. Dev-in Dav-is. Clap. Clap. Clap clap clap. My 2 year old and I will be chanting along from home. Get well soon DD. We need you.

Wonderful news to wake up to. Obviously for any believers, we need to continue to pray for DD and his family. We also need to remember EH and his family in our prayers. That kid also has a long road to recovery; I can’t imagine the emotions he is experiencing through all of this.

I’m glad to hear that Devin’s condition is improving. I know we all wish him the best and it’s important that those thoughts and prayers of support (and the in-person, tangible support from his family and teammates) continues as his “road to recovery” begins. We don’t know how long it will be or what it will entail but I have faith he’ll return to full health and eventually, to the basketball court.

The good sign is that he was not in the hospital for an extended period. I think it was just over 24 hours. That is Huge!

  • ForeverIU

I didn’t know he was out of the hospital. Where did you read that? I assumed he was still being monitored closely.

  • SCHoosier

Great family..medical personnel and staff behind him..DD is gonna be fine!!!!!

  • CreamandCrimson

Where did you read that he was released from the hospital? I haven’t read that anywhere and I’d be stunned if a person with a serious head injury was released from hospital less than 48 hours after the injury occurred.

Completely agree. Like everyone else I’m glad to hear that Devin is recovering and will hopefully be able to live a normal life going forward. I just hope people remember to support EH. I’m sure he feels terrible about what happened and that basketball is the last thing on his mind. I’m sure it’ll take him time to recover from this emotionally.

Hopefully we’ll get an announcement in a couple more days that he is being discharged. I was very interested to see his continued improvement on the court, and I hope that we’ll be able to see him play soon.

    Hang in there, Devin.

  • SilentBob

Devin is in great hands. I’ll keep prayin’ for him, Emmitt, and everyone affected. Hope to see ya on the court here soon big fella.

  • Florida Girl

So glad to hear he continues to improve! Hang in there and we hope for only good things in your future!

  • ForeverIU

No worries, you put some positive energy out there, and that’s a good thing! Let’s hope for a shorter hospital stay and quick recovery.

  • HoosierPat

Glad to hear Devin is doing better. I love how the kid plays and I can’t wait to see him back on the court. Let’s all continue to keep Devin and Emmitt in our thoughts and prayers.

I imagine this was the scariest moment of EH’s life, I’m so glad it didn’t go as badly as a similar event went for a friend of mine in high school. Regardless of any facts, if DD had passed or been permanently injured, EH would have carried that burden for his lifetime.
