• Love this PA announcer. He even throws in a boom shakalaka at one point.

  • Joe B

Wow.  If he continues to get in better shape this guy is going to be a monster.  Would love to see him join up with the Hoosiers, but after Fischer’s commitment, it would seem unlikely for Crean to go with 4 forwards for the class.  However, with Yogi coming in he might feel like he won’t need any guards.  Or maybe he is banking on Jaquan to join Blackmon in ’14??

  • Stantonr

We need this guy. He has improved alot since the last video i saw.

  • Anonymous

Wow, his arms are LONG.  It looks like he’s only getting a little over a foot off the ground but his arms are knocking anything that’s not a rainbow sky high.

I was a little miffed that every dunk in the first 3 minutes had to be replayed in slow mo.  There were a few that were sick.  But every dunk?  Haha

We need this guy- Vic, get busy.

  • Anonymous

What a beast!  The jumper is coming along too.  He would give us tremendous depth in the frontcourt.  Picture Zeller and Perea starting with Anya, Jurkin, and Fischer.  Wow!  And yes, love the boom shakalaka!

  • Anonymous

Kid’s built like a humvee. I saw one jump shot. Anyone know what kind of touch he’s got? I’ll grant you, he might not need a jump shot too badly, but he must spend some time at the line.  How is his free throw %?

  • N71

Cool old school gym as well.  Here’s how I see the 2013 group if we can land BeeJay:

Hartman – lights out shooter that can play the 2 or 3 and guard the 4 in a pinch
Davis – banger utility guy like Patterson but bigger and interior versus perimeter
BeeJay – heavy duty banger for one purpose, get wins at MSU and OSU
Fischer – plays the 5 and is the eventual replacement for Cody

    Thoughts?

  • I would love to see us get this style of a big man.  He would help us tremendously against the other big body big men in the big ten… (wow, that was a little riddle)… (and so was that)

But seriously… Victor needs to talk to this young lad.  I would say he is the one player that, if we could land him, would greatly improve our chances at a National Title over the next 3 years.

  • Bobby

What are our chances of getting him to commit to IU?

  • Anonymous

I am lighter on Hartman and heavier on Davis.  Hartman will have 1 year of VO and WS infront of him, followed by 2 years of AE and Remy, and 3 years of Patterson and Hollowell. So, I feel Hartman struggles to find the floor.

Davis can play bigger than his 6’6″ frame but is more suited in the post.  He only has CZ, Perea, and Fischer to contend with right now.  CZ might be in NBA.  But, Crean likes to move the ball and play smaller line ups so I think Davis will have more of an impact.

  • Three notes…
    1. This video just reminds me how much I enjoy the ITH-made videos – way too many slow mo replays.
    2.  Looks like he is laboring to run up and down the court?
    3.  I WANT this guy.  He is exactly what we need.

Put this guy in the front court with Hanner and Cody and keep in mind we will have Yogi in the back court!!!! Could you imagine the fun we would have watching that line-up? Good times are here again folks and the sky is the limit. Voctor needs to get to convincing this young man this is the place for him. Send him a pair of Candy-Stripes and let him get used to the look! We need this cat!

  • nakedsamurai

I wonder if his speed will be a problem.  Crean seems to otherwise be targeting big guys who can affect the transition game.  Anya would not.

I dunno.  He seems to have Big East stamped all over him, suggested of course by where he is from.  But he just screams Georgetown or Syracuse to me, and that’s where I think he may find his home.

  • IUoptometry

The kid will definitely have a college ready body when he graduates but I think Crean will pass on this kid b/c he cant run the floor. He wont be able to keep up with our fast pace offense. He got many of his tip-in points/dunks because he is always the last one up the floor. It would be nice to have him as a big bodied “banger” but I think Crean passes on this kid. Thoughts???

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Anyone else think Anya’s really getting better compared to the highlights we had of him last year?  His athleticism seems to be catching up to his body!

I also have a sneaking suspicion that VO and MO are going to have something to do with this kids recruitment.  I suspect VO is an amazing recruiter and we know MO was with VO so I hope that’s the case!  We could really use this guy next year if we want to make a Final Four run.  Our team has everything except the big banger down low!

I think CTC would take him because he’s the one element we don’t have.  Keep in mind that the one time we ran into a team this year that was able to slow us down and keep IU in the half court beat our brains in down low!  It would be nice to have one player like Anya or Alexander who could bang and create space for our quick guards coming in and help so Zeller doesn’t have to have 2 bangers leaning and banging on him all night!

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

He also appears to have slimmed down a bit since the last time I saw him.  With a good collegiate strength and conditioning coach, I think he could slim down more and get stronger and possibly run the floor better.

According to this ITH article – http://www.insidethehall.com/recruit-profile-beejay-anya/ — BeeJay already has an offer from IU. So it’s up to him at this point, Crean and staff have already made their decision that they want him here.

  • HoosierDadE

Anytime an announcer can drop an NBA Jam reference, he is doing his job…

    “HE’S HEATING UP!”

  • Anonymous

If he could work on his conditioning he could be a Draymond Green type of player. Similar build and can bang. Really needs some serious work on the treadmill though.

  • Indiana2011

He has already dropped LBS. I thought before I really wanted Zeigler after Fischer came aboard. Not to sound greedy, but would like them both. I know the schollies is going to come into question, but I am really getting tired of people worrying about doing CTC job. Everything will work itself out.

If everything stays as is. I see Remy, Patterson, AE & Hartman having a hard time seeing the floor in 2013. I understand role players, but these two guys mentioned above are studs in Anya & Zeigler. Crean will find away to make room, that you can bet on.

He won’t be here for two years.

  • Kentc

I agree on the slow-mo, but YouTube’s streaming is infinitely better than Vimeo’s.

  • Kentc

I agree.  I’d sure hate to see him go to the Spartans.

  • Kentc

This interview gives a pretty good insight into the young man: http://recruitingspotlight.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/beejay-anyas-recruitment-remains-wide-open/

WOW, i want this guy! this is the type of strong big man that we haven’t had in awhile. Don’t get me wrong, i love Cody and what i’ve seen from Hanner. But what i see in this guy is the strong big man that we needed against the bigs of MSU. Of course he still needs to get into better shape, but Crean will take care of that.

We need him really badly.   If we get him we get a banger and we have a complete team.  This is how Uconn in the past was able able to bat duke and unc teams.  Because they didn’t have a banger down low they got into foul trouble and couldn’t execute. VO and Creek need to work hard to recruit this kid.

  • Derbus

BeeJay’s a stud. period.  He will augment IU for another run at a National Title.
    Hartman is affirmed.
Davis is better than you think.
I am not sold on Fischer’s development, will know in a few years.

It is fun to have good to great players as prospects for IU again.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

True if he leaves early.  If he stays four years then he’ll be a Senior when Anya is a freshman.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Seems like a good kid and seems like VO is playing a major role in his recruiting.  He says he wants to visit Indiana and one thing we can always count on when a kid visits IU . . . he’s gonna get noticed and that makes a high school kid feel good!

Anyone know what type of competition was in this tournament?

I like his physique, and he seems to enjoy banging around the basket.  My critique would be that he seems willing to play off whom he is guarding in order to get more angle on a block.  That won’t fly in the B1G.  He also seems like against B1G competition, he might not be able to string together too many minutes.  He seemed to labor going up and down the floor, and if that is an issue in HS, it will be a problem at IU unless he improves his conditioning.

Very interesting prospect, if he can improve in those areas.  You can’t teach that body type.  He is a moose.

  • deez

The kid is large.  Reminds me of a smaller version of Eddy Curry out of Thornwood.

  • Bucky

People keep calling him just a banger, but I see a lot of skill here.  Very good timing on both ends of the court.  Good help defense, good blocks while gaining possession instead of swatting it out of bounds.  One play in particular he used his forearm to create offensive space without the ball, to position for the lob and dunk.

But I don’t see him as so many others have said:  someone to just bang and do the hard work near the basket.  He’s not an offensive lineman (although, c’mon, he would make an amazing NFL tight end – how would you defend an 8-yard pass to him?)

Yes, he’s big and strong.  But he can play, and it seems he’s well coached.  He would be terrific in Crean’s system.  Better with IU, in fact, than most schools.

  • Lucas Vaal

Does anyone else think that BeeJay reminds them of Marco Killingsworth? I just get that feeling when I see him. I believe BeeJay is better, but still get that mini Shaq feeling when I see him. haha

I see Devin Davis as being far more like Draymond Green.  Both are 6’6ish and rebound/finish inside very well, but can also handle the ball a little and shoot.  Granted, Green is bigger, but Davis will bulk up some.  Anya is a couple inches taller with longer arms and less of an outside game.

  • BEAT KENTUCKY

BeeJay is the one I’ve wanted all along . Scholarship wise , can we get him and  Fischer ?

  • BEAT KENTUCKY

Dont know if he is fast enough for our team though

I’ve only seen the video, but I sense he can play faster, but has been coached to play under control and avoid fouls.  Refs might watch him extra closely because of his strength.  Just a guess.

  • I hate to agree with ya on this, but I think you’re right.

  • Does anyone follow him on twitter… He is constantly retweeting IU fan’s messages to him.  Like, “Come to IU… The best Big man in the Country is always from BIG 10, be a hoosier!!” and he retweets that… That has to mean he likes it.  I have not seen one retweet from another school.
