With the clock winding down, and the need for a clutch bucket, why give the ball to VJ instead of Hulls? I cannot understand that.

what a joke. A REAL COACH DOESN”T LOSE TO IOWA AT HOME

  • iuprez16

Honestly people, how did Coach Crean lose that game? What could he have done in those final 13 seconds? The answer . . . nothing. There is nothing he could have done. The players are the ones who screwed things up. They even had two timeouts to get things figured out and they still couldn’t convert.

Iowa switched to a trapping defense and a 3-2 zone defense and our guys just could not handle it. Simply put, you can’t fully blame the Coach for the players not playing the right way. It’s like blaming any President for the economy. They have very little to no control over what happens after the timeouts and practices are complete. It’s up to the players to execute and we simply did not do that when it counted.

  • HoosierSmitty

That was terrible clock management at the end of the game. Someone needs to step up and take responsibility for that. Ugh. What a joke.

VJ III at least got a decent look, and I like our chances most of the time from that range for him. But I’m not convinced that was the call. I wonder if VJ III just decided to do that on his own.

Regardless, IU should have never been in that position. Terrible, boneheaded plays cost the Hoosiers at the end of this game. Should have been a W.

Now we can stop thinking NIT again and just enjoy the fact that IU is finally playing competitive basketball in every game regardless of who’s healthy or not.

  • Gdfost

One step forward and five steps back. Cannot lose to Iowa at home to have any progress to report!!!

  • Anonymous

This one doesn’t go on coaching I would say our players did not execute down the stretch.

  • Kelin Blab

I am still thinking NIT….got plenty of winable games left against teams that are supposed to beat us.

+ Wisconsin and NW at home
+ A PU team that struggles to score
    + Michigan on the road

Things are good, tough loss, Iowa, just as PSU are good teams. The big ten is a great conference

  • HoosierFromCt

Let the CTC haters come back!!!! Oh, have i missed you guys.

  • Gdfost

PU? Who are you kidding? We don’t have a single big man that can guard J. Johnson…………He’ll be able to score when he wants, where he wants. They play better defense, are better coached and have two players who want to make plays all the time (not sure IU has one).

  • Anonymous

Alright, I’ll admit I overreacted a bit. But we just got beat by IOWA! AT HOME! This kind of losing to inferior teams has got to stop or this program will never get it’s feet off the ground.

  • Anonymous

VJ needs to make that shot. That was a horrible last 5 mins and should never even got to that point. COMPLACENCY WILL KILL YOU!

  • Anonymous

Crean cannot be blamed for that lose. It is all the players 100%. players gave in to complacency and that’s what happens. VJ needs to make that shot, but he should never even be in that situation.

  • Kelin Blab

Did I miss something….did you watch today’s IU game? Out hustled and out classed….

How about they just lost by 1pt to a team that blew out MSU….you know the team that went to the final 4 last year. It really isn’t that bad.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Abso-freaking-lutely can’t blame that one on anyone but the players. The same team that played well for 34 minutes coughs it up unforced three times in 2 minutes to squander a ten point lead at home?

That’s not coaching that’s just pathetic execution and choking by players! Even the last possession you could see CTC screaming because they didn’t move or even attempt to run what he drew up! That wasted enough time to where we had to settle. Just imagine if the players hadn’t wasted those precious seconds then Sheehey is right under the basket for that wide open put back at the end of the game!

Blame that one on players who just flat out screwed the pooch down the stretch!

  • Kelin Blab

Pritchard did an excellent job last year on Johnson and probably the double team formula they used on Tisdale would work to slow Johnson down. However…if he gets his 20…..lets be nice and say Moore gets his 20…. the other guys are suspect and we match up well with them.

Not that far fetched of a idea.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Yeah, that was about the equivalent of a couple running backs fumbling to squander a two score lead with 3 minutes to go. Nothing the coach can do but scream at them for not taking care of the ball!

  • Anonymous

I thought about it for a second and deleted that part. Yes, I shouldn’t have said that.

  • Anonymous

Thinking back, I agree. As I stated in my later comment, I was overreacting.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

I agree that this was a pathetic loss! Much more pathetic than losing to PSU at home or Iowa on the road because they had this one won with a 10 point lead and all they had to do was take care of the ball and execute a “put it away” game plan.

This one really hurts because it KILLS any and all momentum the team had spun. Lose by just getting beat the whole game and it looks like a team you just don’t match up against. Lose by blowing a big lead late in the game and you just get the feeling they choked!

I understand that we are down a couple good players, but the guys still out there have to have more resolve than that.

That’s just too bad. I think that game is the difference between a possible NIT birth and a losing season!

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

It’s cool. I went outside to bust up some ice in the drive with a big shovel after the game to burn off some pissed off!

  • Anonymous

I think they have a chance against PU. Obviously, they will have to play very well, but Kelin is right…other than Moore and Johnson, they struggle putting the ball in the hole.

I think you are on tilt after a rough loss. I was too…that’s why I logged off for an hour! Young teams do this to you: they win games you don’t think they should (Illinois and Minn) and lose games they shouldn’t (Iowa). Comes with the territory.

  • Kelin Blab

I have been guilty of that as well….tough loss, great passion we live on….should have won that one.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Yeah, it’s not the big, traditional big men we struggle against. It’s the guys like we faced tonight in Basabe. We struggle against smaller athletic big men in the 6’7″-6’8″ range because our athletes are too small and our big men are too slow. I think that’s why we don’t match up against Iowa well.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

Oh, that one hurts KB! Up ten and you are ready to officially turn the corner. I’m getting ready to get pumped that we offer the a**whooping back to Iowa and then surprise everyone and wrap up at 16-15, 17-14, or even 18-13 and poof, like your one shot with the hot blond at the bar, it’s gone and you’re left standing there with her ugly friend!

  • Kelin Blab

That is why we are moving in the direction of Pitchfords and less Capo types. VERY VERY good point. Back to the basket guys don’t really hurt us…basabe and the guy from Minny do.

  • Kelin Blab

It will be tough on the road but….

    Pritchard-Johnson
    Elston- Carroll
    Moore-Rivers
    Jackson-Hulls
    Smith-Sheehey

    off the bench…..Byrd, Bade, Barlow
off the bench…..VJ, Oladipo, Moore, Capo….hell Howard gave some decent floor time

Big Ten is tough this year – this game made me think much higher of them – these two teams have to be the best last place teams in any conference.

  • Anonymous

i hope this team doesn’t share your view that this game kills “any and all momentum” they have built this season. I would be very disappointed to see them come out in the next game and play down and defeated. They played hard and competitive and many of us have said that was their expectations. Rebounding after a tough loss is this team’s next challenge. If they give their all next game I will accept it win or loss. If they come out flat and play without the energy/passion they have had the last few games I will be disappointed.

  • Diesel

If you have seen a single big man who has been able to guard JJ, I’d like to know about it. Look for Pritch and the double on JJ and Rivers on Moore. We match up pretty well.

  • Aceman_Mujezinovic_07

    I hope so!
