Calling a recruit the day he commits, right after he commits, seems to be very shady. I wish the kid had just signed his letter instead of only verbaling. Since he's from up there, doesn't he know that everybody would hate him for switching allegiance that late in the game? At least EGordon was from Indiana, so his homestate mostly cheered his decision (although it was dubious under Denim Shirt).

Calipari is an absolute slimeball and I can't wait for the next scandal to surface. Lexington has indeed made a Faustian error, and I hope their program will suffer the consequences (though, undoubtedly, *after* Calipari has moved on–always one step ahead!)

Bo Ryan finds players that fits his system. He really knows what to look for, and Wisconsin is always very good because of it. I believe Tom Izzo is a better complete coach than him, but i would say that Ryan is not far behind. He gets players that play fundamentally sound, and can shoot the 3. It is true that he usually doesn't get the best best talent, but is always up there in the Big Ten.

    great post

My friend and I used to rate all the girls in our middle school when we were younger, and we had a pretty elaborate scale, so I have some experience.

Izzo is a players coach thus he attracts the modern big time athlete where Bo won't get down on their level like that, which was similar to Knight. I think that's the difference that has helped Izzo acheive more.

I think Izzo is the best in-game coach in basketball. His adjustments during the game, coming out of halftime, calling timeouts at the right moments. In close games, his record has to be off the charts.

OK Marsh then maybe you can help me something. Many Crean recruiting defenders point out how great the 2009 class was and will be. So there is no question he can recruit.

At the same time, with the smaller, weaker 2010 class, we say he has nothing to work with and we need to win games. Do you think the 2009 class had more to sign up for than 2010? I…..don't think so.

My point is you can only have one or the other. Thus far it has been a dissapointing recruiting period. Am I worried? Not really. I just thought we would have more. And we don't. And I'm not making excuses for it.

Negedu amd Offutt would level the playing field a little.

q95 I can give you a little background. I have belonged to a College basketball fantasy league for about 6 years (hey Alex, let's have a fantasy league on the side, Big-Ten only, I will run it. We'll even let JerryCT play). Anyway, if it sounds lame you are dead wrong. It kicks the crap out of any NFL league I have ever played in.

Offutt was supposed to be tough. If you read through that article again someone linked ITH last week, the kid is a little outspoken. Well, Matta ain't. Crean is better suited to deal with the extraverts in my opinion.

He was close to being Mr. Basketball in Ohio. As it stands today his biggest assett is he wants to show Ohio State and the Big Tne he can hoop. For that alone I would buy a ticket!

Marsh, I know Wisconsin basketball. Trust me. And you make good points. But this program has two definites that I just can't feel good about every single season.

#1 – their line-up will spend more time on the floor trying to draw charges than anyone in the country. Brian Butch, for crying out loud, was 7 frickin feet tall and spent so much time on the floor I though he was a mop by his senior season. It is really tough to watch.

#2 – On a more serious note, the depressing thing is that they will never, ever, never compete for a national championship. Yes, they squeaked into a Final Four within the last ten years but the style of basketball they play is not conducive to the tournemnet. And typically they get smoked by the more athletic team.

My point is, we never want to be Wisconsin. Do they win? Yes they so. Do they win like IU wants to win? Uhhhh, no. They do not.

No mud in my eyes, I'm being totally realistic. I'd like to see the recruiting class have some more pizazz, too, but it can't be that fantastic because there aren't a ton of open spots to give.
You're arguing from both sides of your mouth because you're calling for more talent, but you're saying the existing talent being coached up is the key. I think the current roster does have room for growth, and I think Crean has shown he has the ability to foster that growth (i.e, VJ III this past year.)
I'm not denying the program is at a much lower place than it should be, I'm just saying I have faith in CTC's ability to pull it out of that hole.

It strikes me that Alex has alot to do as it is but maybe if you do the work there might be a way to make it happen somehow connected to ITH.

But what do I care I will not be invited to join or have the time after I start up my new “egged house cleanign ” business

You can not get away with just “making things up”! Who exactly at Marquette told you this? If it was not Buzz then it was not The College Coach! But you made up even more-you said “coaches”. So name the other Coach. I am tired of made up BS. If you KNOW something, great, share it. If you don't use something like “IMO” so we know that we are not dealing in facts but fantasy. If someone at KY said this about Tubby, would that mean that it is a fact or that someone at KY still holds an old grudge?

If you compare IU to Baylor, Baylor was much better in 2008-09 and 2009-10. No one knows what will happen in 2010-11. I am a Hoosier fan and that did not hurt at all!

I somehow feel better when IU does not get its way, blaming you Jerry. It seems to come very natural now. And fittingly, vandalizing your property allows me to move on.

I think the most noticeable difference for a lot of people between ITH and the other boards is the posters. The reason I check this site everyday is not only the provided info, but because I enjoy reading most of the comments. You won't find most of the BS that you find on the other sites (rumors without legs, thoughtless comments, negativity, ignorance).

How different would we feel about our 2010 class with Kyrie Irving (Kelin is still emotionally traumatized)? CTC made the mistake of putting all his eggs in one basket, or Coach Ro was the problem, or whatever you want to think. But I think this class shapes up nicely if the additions of Eman and WO come through. I'm a bit more intrigued by the 2011 class myself because I really feel that will be the indicator of the direction the program is headed.

Well I agree we want to win with better athletic combinations than Wisconsin does to make some runs. However when IU did have an athletic team with Mr. S. they still beat us. They cut teams apart every year with less talent due to Bo's system.

Bo doesn't win championships because he won't recruit the top national players. His system is certainly good enough but it doesn't highlight the individual and allow the one on one players to show their stuff. Butler has a similar system as its all about the team which is hard for me to not show some love for.

We need a combination of great athletes and a team system as the stars will always shine.

It is interesting that only 12 programs in the last 30 years have won a championship. Bo is not by himself.
