This is going to be a huge test for our Hoosiers. Chris Warren, Terrico White and Eniel Polynice are one of the better backcourt trios we are going to play this season. Murphy Holloway is a very good offensive rebounder and they have a couple of freshman that should have an impact on the game as well.
The key is going to be the perimeter defense of Rivers, Dumes, Creek and Jones. I think they will play well and keep IU in the game. Bare minimum, we beat Boston and are competitive in the other two games (probably against Dayton or Georgia Tech). It would be great to steal two games from this tourney but one is more realistic. Who knows, today could be a big step forward in the rebuilding process. Go Hoosiers!

I just want IU to stay competitive for most of the game. It's a lot less enjoyable to watch a game when we're getting spanked from the get go.

This game is going to give us a lot of insight into what this team can do this year.

  • I cannot wait to watch this game. Last year was brutal and the first two games should have been wins anyway. Now it's time for a REAL test from a solid team. Honestly, I expect a loss tonight…but not by more than 10. If IU wins I'll do backflips. If we lose by 10 or less I'll say it's what I expected. If we get drilled I'll be very disappointed. GO HOOSIERS!!!

  • By the way, if Pritchard doesn't step up soon he might lose his spot to Elston.

  • Hardwood83

Wow that was terrible, I wish I hadn't watched it. I can handle losing to a better team (like Ole Miss) but completely self destructing is sooooo frustrating. Hit some FREAKIN FREE THROWS, play some interior DEFENSE and don't TURNOVER the ball 15x in 1st half and it's a toss-up. I know: IU is very young, Ole Miss is athletic and it's early in the season but this sure felt a lot like last year.

  • jfear

hopefully coach crean will look at this tape and say wow we need some big men that can rebound and catch the ball and when they do catch it they now what to do with it. this is going to be a long year. we need to start recuriting some biggs for next year.

  • stevealford

Elston can't play the 5, although Elston does need to be inserted in the starting lineup. Move Watford to the 3 and replace Verdell (turnover) Jones. If we just took Rivers out of the starting lineup along with VJ and just don't play Dumes at all, we could cut our turnovers in half.

  • we're gonna win!

  • Kreigh_Smiths_Short_Shorts

And start Hulls at the point? Or Moore?!?

  • Chicksdigthe3

This game will be won by the team that can limit its turnovers, and consistently hit the “3”. Poor shooting and bad ball handling will doom one of these teams. I doubt you will see a lot of defense tonight as I expect the score to be in the high 70's and low 80's. I predict Crean's first “real win” with an 82-77 victory.

  • peaychris

i feel this game will be close and free throws will loom large for the hoosiers… i wish we could get back to the notorious IU stat of making more free throws than the other teams attempt!!

  • cap23

What's up with Pick to Click closing before 4:45? I wanted to pick Watford.

  • Sorry. Had to close it a bit early. I'll count this.

If it wasn't for J Rivers thus far we would be getting our asses kicked……but JR needs to stop spinning and passing…to the other team…..

Hulls is looking like a freshmen right now…..

    Pritchard refuses to shoot…..

  • i'm a lil confused on why tijan is on the floor if ever. he averaged 3 ppg at a crap jc, and he was cause for 3 turnovers…IN A ROW. we might as well play 4 on 5 instead of having him in the game….at least the entry pass won't be picked off 3 times in a row, or have a 3 in the key. and he just stands there on d like a 7 foot cardboard box.
hulls athleticism is terrible, he has extreme trouble bringing the ball upcourt…yikes. and pritchard makes BADDD decisions. it scares me he starts for us. creek and elston look like they have freshman jitters..but that'll pass, they've got sweet game.
that said, i think we've got a nice core. watford, creek, rivers, vj, elston = studs. and i think we'll be nit worthy…if not better

  • Bored_in_the_Offseason

You guys plan on doing the live game “chats” this year?

  • It's possible, but at this point: no.

  • Bryan

Very disappointing game to watch. Sloppy ballhandling and poor free throw shooting. I feel like I've been here before…

  • disappointing game. we're not a top 25 team this year, but i take solace that our female fanbase is #1 every year.

  • indiananorthshore

Now I understand why the Marquette Alums I know were glad to get rid of Creans. He is a bad coach!!! We were up big with 12 minutes left in the first half, he then killed any momentum by taking Creek off the floor then Watford. It was very obvious tonight that Hulls and Elston are not athletic enough to compete with better athletes at the college level.

Do you still feel the same? I agree Dumes hasn't added much and Pritchard was disappointing tonigt- but at least Jones can score. They were clueless without Rivers, Hulls looked overmatched. Our Big men (Pritch, Capo….and Jobe?) are SO slow and cumbersome….I am quite discouraged by this effort.

  • Free Throws. That says it all.

  • jfear

That was absolutely horrible. After reading all the threads on here nobody mentioned their defense. I mean hell they just basically walked in there and shot layups all night. Then when we got the ball we couldn't hold on to it. Two more things we can't rebound and we didn't hit our free throws…Yeah before all you guys go and start bashing me I know that IU is very young and in the rebuilding process but damn!!! That was very frustrating for me to watch. Jordan Hulls looks like he's scared to have the ball in his hands. Something I don't understand about the coaches decision was to stay in the 2-3 zone and why in the hell was he putting Tijan in the game?? Does anyone have a good response to this? That's bulls@&t.

  • hoosierodi

I agree with you completely. Pathetic defense. It wasnt horrible on ball for some part, but when they got by one guy it was a wide open lane. Also the fact that Tijan got in some regular minutes is rediculous. Why not put Bawa in who could use the experience and is already 10x better than TIjan will ever be. I love Tijan, but come on. Watford just got bumped around this game, i knew he would it was just going to a matter of how he reacted. Tijan got in the game and caused 2 turnovers in a row…. on us. Hubert Davis mentioned that Tijan possessed a shot-blocking ability and that deffinately made me laugh. I was excited to get up early, but then came in Hulls, and Jobe. Hulls just isnt ready. He does play tenative and jacked up a couple long threes. Rivers, Jones, Creek were the only three that were any bit consistent this game.

Ok People we are talking about a team of 5 freshmen and 1 transfer player. In high school if you had the freshman team play the senior team you would expect them to loss. Everyone of these players are winners, came from winning programs. So I am sure this loss is hard on them too. Lets stand by them and not make excuses. I for one am very proud of this team, just like last years team

    old miss was younger

  • JerryCT

Lookin gback on your comments you were a genius. Creek was a major liability on defense . I was in the stands down here and got so I could predict the Ole Miss offense. It was called “find Creek and exloit him ” . Almost every Ole Miss possession when he was in the game went like this. Hulls was devoured and is not yet an answer. Elston, Dumes , RIvers and sometimes Jones looked to be the only kids that could play at the Ole Miss level at this point of the season

  • CreamandCrimson

I get one right occasionally 🙂 I saw Ole Miss play Arkansas Little Rock and knew they would be very tough for us to beat. The frustrating thing was the self-inflicted wounds. We can't fix a lack of perimeter defense overnight, we HAVE to shoot better than 44% from the FT line! Have fun watching the game, we have to listen to it on the radio. ESPNU is picking up a MAC football game instead.
