Josh Selby seems to be fairly athletic

In case you failed to update your recruiting calendar, Indiana’s impromptu in-home visit with Josh Selby is tomorrow. According to The Indianapolis Star, the Lake Clifton (MD) senior is also considering Kansas, Baylor, Connecticut, Syracuse, Miami, Florida State, Oregon and Kentucky.

While it seems highly unlikely that Indiana could jump in on Selby at this stage of the game, all indications are that the Hoosiers have done just that. With that said, in honor of Tuesday’s visit, I searched the Interwebs for video of the No. 4 prospect on Rivals.com and came up with a solid compilation. (At the least, you owe it to yourself to watch the crossover at the 45-second mark.) Enjoy it after the jump …

I guess you can never say never. After all, how many folks on this site thought Kyrie Irving was practically in the bag, or at least that IU was going to be the final cut?

As for schools being “in” with Selby, I would imagine that most of his current suitors are recent, since he had committed to Tennessee. Given that, he may just want to make sure he's examined all options before finally making up his mind.

It's that reason, and not the recruiting process that makes me less than confident he'll pick the Hoosiers. I could see Selby making his choice late in the game, and Crean doesn't seem to prefer waiting for a kid to recruit, if another one is ready to commit.

  • GFDave

Wow. Derrick Rose-ish type game. Stop the movie at 2:21 and see how close this kid's head is to the rim.

Having gone to the same school as Victor for a while may help.

  • russellbaxter

Not gonna happen with this Selby, more concerning if UNC wants Zeller they'll get em, and if Duke wants Plumlee they'll get him, and Kentucky might want J. Davis, now you tell me.

I.U. is going to have to recruit the less known players and make them really good. Nothing wrong with that it may take a little longer, but I don't see Selby, and Zeller and Plumlee is up to UNC, and Duke, and I.U. beats Kentucky for a recruit only if he's Mr. Basketball for the state of Indiana and he goes to a Bloomington high school. Sorry.

  • jgongora86

Man you are a downer. J. Davis has a huge interest with Indian because a lot of his friends are going to playing at IU, and we have a great shot with Zeller because from what I'm hearing from UNC circles is that the younger brother is likely wanting to go a different direction from his other brothers. Not to say they won't commit somewhere else, but never say never dude.

  • dale11

    The final sixteen? really?

  • GFDave

Good point. I hope to see Victor this year at DeMatha.

  • hoosier07

has anyone tweeted him or anything about the site? someone needs to let him know so he can read

  • Kelin Blab

Watching this video clip and recruiting Josh Selby is like the girl you thought that really wanted you in high school. She spoke to you, she smiled at you, she complimented your nice smile, but all the while she was only trying to make the other guy jealous so they could really “want her”…

In other words, nothing but a tease……Nice video though…..
    Colts Run D still sucks….

  • GFDave

    russelbaxter continues to be sorry.

  • jgongora86

Russel, this is Indiana. If Crean only goes to two SWEET sixteen berths, I will will bring out my pitchfork ( yes new yorkers have pitchforks) and kick him out myself. Crean is too good of a coach not two go really deep by his 5th or 6th year.

  • jgongora86

but then you ignored her so she could get ticked and then actually be interested in you. Right?

  • russellbaxter

    i mean sweet!

  • marsh

No way Selby is coming to IU. To much opportunity at other schools who haven’t been hit yet by the NCAA. IU will be back in 4 to 5 years but it will take some time. That’s why Crean’s contract is for so long, he knows what it will take. However, I will still wish for some big names.

  • Kelin Blab

Russell…..if you think the KI thread last week had a lot of post….let IU only focus on “lesser known” players like D. Williams and see what happens. You HAVE to recruit KI and make a name for yourself. IU is not Butler and we take 2nd tier role players and 'mold' them…..

No you recruit, J. Davis til he say no, you recruit DSR, Patterson etc. If those kids see you are recruiting 'lesser known players' they will go elsewhere…..sorry disagree bro.

  • jaywiz

from what i can see in this clip…this kid needs to learn to use his left paw. every shot he takes is with his right, even on the left side of the hoop.

  • JerryCT

He sure seems to be athletic but from this video I cannot conclude he is a point guard any more than Eric Gordon was a point guard. I saw a driving scoring guard with a weird outside shot that looks off balance and needs to be radically altered to shoot and score in college.

I saw no passing………………..still I would love for him to come to IU and get his game together.

I am so excited to see this team this year I am going to put my money where my feelings are and go to Puerto RIco, New York and make the 1,000 mile trip to IUvsMD with 7 friends………what is the best way to get MD tix ?

That crossover will break more ankles than cobblestone streets. Wow! Take a seat, son!

  • because it's Indiana

Your comments aren't fooling anyone. You are clearly a Kentucky fan (posing as a Hoosier) making veiled comments about the program to make Indiana sound bad. It's flattering that you are so worried about IU that you take the time to do this. You may want to take some more time and think about your posts. We have a higher standard here than you are used to.

The final straw for me was not “the final sixteenth,” or yet another “sorry” on a sorry post. It was the use of the word “us.” You're entitled to your opinion in this forum, but don't you ever use the word “us” when talking about our Hoosiers. You are not one of us, you are not a Hoosier, and you will never be a Hoosier.

    “SORRY.”

  • russellbaxter

That's why I have directv, the only way outside the state of Indiana that you can watch I.U. basketball. Get real joker. But, I also see some very rough times ahead for this program. Notice out of respect to you who, I didn't say our program. I'll stand by my prediction of 2 SWEET sixteen, and one fianl four in the next 9 years and I submit to you sir that's pretty damn good. Put the cream and crismon glasses down, and I mean business too.

Were not Kentucky, were not Duke, were not UNC, and were not Kansas or UCLA. We may not even be the best basketball team in the state of Indiana. The end of the glory days was with Bailey, and Henderson etc. There is nothing in the recent last 20 years of I.U. history to suggest anything better than 2 sweet sixteen, and one final four appearence. Sorry.

  • GFDave

Look out everybody, baxter means business!!!!

  • George

Josh Selby is VERY athletic. I think he can create his own shot and could be a good passer too. Really, how often do you see a guy passing in a highlight video? I don't think we should judge him by that. I'd much rather see dunks and 3 pointers. He also has a nice floater in the lane that could be useful in the Big Ten. We all don't think we will get him, so we are trying not to get our hopes up or even say that we like him, but there is no denying that he is VERY good and would be great in a Hoosier uniform!

  • amazedinaz

Guys, how did russell become a KU guy? In RMK's last 10 years, he had 2 Sweet Sixteen's, 1 Elite Eight and 1 Final Four. All of those came between '90 – '93 (still riding the '87 championship). It was all down hill from there. And when did RMK ever consistently get top 25 recruits (HELL, EVER)? Why are we now holding TC to a higher standard than RMK? A couple of Sweet Sixteens and a Final Four? With the way the last season went, a Final Four and 2 Sweet Sixteen's would be good. IU will have to be successful (NCAA Tournament appearances) before any top 20 recruits will commit to IU.

  • Mr. Russell A. Baxter

KU? Is that Kansas or Kentucy?

  • BFowler

I am emotionally spent from KI. I do not know if I can get involved with another point guard right now. I don't want him to be the rebound guard if there can be something meaningful here. I think he has athletic ability and is rated very high, but I can not let my hopes get up again. I hope you find the right place for you Mr. Selby. If it is Indiana (all the better for me), I hope you are successful where ever you end up for your 12 months of clooege life.

  • BFowler

Mr. Baxter, I feel like you do not want to get emotionally inolved and get disappointed again. You show flashes of hope, but it feels like you were burned by Denim Shirt or “Help-is-on-the-way” or both. Maybe you are still feeling the hurt from your first love: RMK and the forced break-up with help from Myles Brand. Maybe you were one of those guys who bought a Texas Tech t-shirt. I don't know. I understand you are probably skeptical and do not want to set expectations too high so you are not disappointed again, but most people commenting on this blog are very optimistic and we need to believe we are a player again on the scale we used to be (when we were all young and things made sense) during the “good ol' days.” I want to believe that Coach Crean can play with the big boys on the recruiting front, but his track record is taking on 3- and 4-star players and turning out a pretty good product (see: Travis Diener, Steve Novak, Wesley Matthews, and Dominic James) in the Big East. We are hhoping the pull of Indiana will make him a major force with the kids. I agree you are probably more on the realistic side in terms of record, tournament appearances, and recruiting, but seeing that in writing is hard to swallow for some (including me). I have to believe the glass is half full.

  • Mr. Russell A. Baxter

I understand, and i will not post unless i have something really positive to say hey. thanks for the heads up butt.

  • Disco_Briscoe

He's not coming. He's a one and done and will go to whatever school that can get him to the pro's the quickest. That's how you land top 10 recruits. Until we go to the final 4 or drop some lottery picks our chances at these studs are slim.

  • Mr. Russell A. Baxter

Sometimes I will see Colts players butt heads after a touch down.

  • IU Mike

The chances of Selby coming to IU are slim and none. Don't get me wrong I would be estatic if he did but I just can't believe he will ever wear an IU uniform. Success breeds success and when we are closer to being back where we all believe we can get to we will start getting the kind of talent that is obvious now rather than talent that is brought out of a diamond in the rough after 2 or 3 years. This is by no means a shot at CTC's ability to recruit because you don't get the kind of talent we have for next year in our situation without being a great recruiter. Alot of how our recruiting is going to go the next couple of years depends alot on how much improvement we show this season. Maybe thats not fair but that is the way it is in recruiting the 5 stars. While I believe we can be very competive and have much success with the caliber of player we have gotten so far I tend to believe this, just as you must have good role players to have the kind of success we all want to have you must compliment those kind of players with the 5 stars also. Not to say that big time success will be impossibe without the 5 stars but our chances are vastly increased with them. I firmly believe Crean will get it all sorted out and do what it takes to get back to where we belong and do it the right way. “In Crean We Trust”

It seems that Josh is very athletic and if you look back Coach Crean seems to be going for athleticism rather than size. I know Crean like to move the ball and push the game SO maybe he is going to make the Hoosiers the Hurryin Hoosiers again and try a little from Arkansa's 40 Minutes of Hell.
