Crean via Twitter: Maurice Creek cleared by NCAA

by Alex Bozich in Media | August 31st, 2009

It’s not often that Tom Crean tweets in all caps, but the news he just passed along via Twitter needed that distinction:

The Restoration job here just took a very large step. MAURICE CREEK HAS BEEN CLEARED BY THE NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE AND CAN START WITH US TODAY

You can only imagine the sight of all the grown men hugging each other around Assembly Hall. Jenna and Ann had to think we were crazy

We never doubted he would do it but its nice to have that closure. All of you were the first to know. Enjoy the day. We will

And enjoy the day we will. Not a bad way to start the week.

Excellent news. "Help is on the way!" (sorry couldn't resist that one)

Dude don't ever utter those words again, it sent chills up my spine. Can't believe Mike Davis sold us on that one...it worked for awhile. I wonder if he would step foot in AH again?

It's obvious that Coach Crean thinks this kid will make a difference on the team if he chose to advertise his ability to PRACTICE with the team this way with "grown men hugging."

Ya know I'm not sure how often this sort of thing happens. I suppose it does. But I personally haven't waited something out like this before in terms of a recruit.

I'm glad we're finally here because under the current IU conditions it certainly didn't make Crean look good. Not that it's that big of deal its just a relief that we're not recruiting guys that can't make it through high school for one reason or another.

Anyway, a collective "sigh" in Hoosier Land today. Can't wait to see him on the floor.

Hopefully Bawa gets it done too so he can start his development.
  • Getting certified as a qualifier and getting through high school are two very different things.

OK, well let's just say that 99.99 percent of the rest of the incoming 2009 student athletes didn't have the challenges that Mo and Bawa did. I guess my point is I am relieved we are getting through it and it didn't look great for the program based on all the scrutiny over the last few years.

The IndyStar story says that Creek is the last freshman to quality. If accurate, that means Bawa has already been cleared.

I wouldn't trust the Star on that. With all the budget cuts at newspapers, it's probably an errant mistake that wasn't caught.

Not sure what to feel wtih all this good news floating around. If Irving and or Davis commit I may have to actully smile.......for the first time in about 4 years.

I hear you. It is kind of weird having good things happening to IU basketball. I gotta say, it's pretty nice :) This is great news, welcome to the family Maurice!
