Tom Crean spotted at state finals

by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | March 28th, 2009

I just got a call from a friend at the morning session of the state finals at Conseco Fieldhouse and Tom Crean is there taking in the action between Bishop Luers and Brownstown. Crean is signing autographs for IU fans and is also getting a chance to see DeShaun Thomas, one of the top juniors in the country from Bishop Luers in Ft. Wayne

Thomas verbally committed to Thad Matta and Ohio State in June of 2007, but the long standing speculation has been that the commitment may not be firm.

Last night, Crean attended the Sweet 16 games of the Midwest Regional at Lucas Oil Stadium and will likely watch Jordan Hulls and Bloomington South try to complete their perfect season against Ft. Wayne Snider later today.

Whether there were any future Hoosiers in the game may be doubtful, but he surely enjoyed that Princeton-Rochester game that took two overtimes before Princeton could claim an undefeated championship.

Congrats to South....bring that winning vibe to IU please
The Princenton-Rochester game was one of the best ever....the one kid was sick
Coach Crean in the next 48hrs please offer D. Davis a scholly...HE is the best soph guard in the state IMO and Teague is going to L'Ville anyhow. So do yourself a favor and offer him, Spencer, Fram a scholly....let Chaz walk on and you are good bro....
  • Crean needs to go after Darwin Davis. That kid can ball and he might grow some more he is only a sophmore.
  • Brian
He was also at the Michigan State game on Friday night.

thanks coach for taking time to sign autographs for all the kids and fans. he is a class act. also matta from osu was also there

the scholly needs to be offered to Deshaun Thomas---why would he want to go to Ohio State anyway?

I have a few interjections here....
    1. DeShaun Thomas will NOT go to Ohio St.

    2. Don't annoint Darwin Davis the best soph guard in the state until you come up north and watch a kid named NIC MOORE (18ppg/5apg/4rpg/3spg)....he's DY-NO-MITE! Unfortunately, Nic is being hounded by Matta AND Painter! YIKES! C'mon Tommy C...get on this kid!

    3. "Diesel"...as he's known in Ft. Wayne...will most likely attend a Ju-Co to pacify the NBA's year out of high school rule. He has NO chance at becoming academically eligible for a Div I program...even one with as "Death Valley" standards as THE Ohio State University.

    4. Hoosiers should NOT be clamoring over D. Thomas...he plays NO defense...and when I say "NO" i'm talking as "what are the chances of me suiting up and averaging 35ppg for the hoosiers next year???" NOne...NOtta...ZERO...NO-way! He doesn't make his teammates better. He's just not that great of an all-around basketball player. He'll get DEVOURED in college and will be lucky to see the floor in the NBA.

Congrats to J. Hulls and his team. They beat a TOUGH Snider squad who's ONLY loss before the state finals was to Thomas' Knights. Can't wait to see Hulls wearing the Crean and Crimson!

I sat behind Crean last Wednesday for Pacers v. Heat as he was undoubtedly there to say hello to D. Wade and Diener. Being from Tipton, I told him how excited I was to watch Elston play for him next year. I also asked him about Deshaun and if there was anything IU could do to land him. He told me that they had tried, but his response left me feeling like he was not that interested. Deshaun reminds me of Funderburke. He absolutely has talent, but I thinks it comes with some habits that might not fit the new Hoosier system. Crean is the answer, and I am as confident with his decisions as I am with the Colts Bill Polian's. We are on the right path and Crean will bring our program back to on the best in the country!!
