ITH Video: Marquis Teague

by Alex Bozich in Video | February 2nd, 2009

Inside the Hall got a look at Indianapolis Pike sophomore Marquis Teague last Friday as the Red Devils fell 75-50 to No. 1 Bloomington South. Here is the the 6-1 point guard, who holds offers from IU, Louisville, Purdue, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Xavier and Ohio State, in a video shot by and produced for Inside the Hall. Teague is in white, wearing No. 30. Enjoy.

There goes the perfect season.. damn... this was a job saver for Crean..
  • James
every once in a while just stop and take a breath...he is 16
  • Kelin Blab
James that is true...but so is Darwin Davis, Chandler Thomas (his teammate), and Spencer Turner and a host of other kids who just play the game.
  • James
I have a lot of respect for Coach Crean and his ability/opinion of players in terms of talent as well as personality. I would agree that Teague is not the picture perfect prospect in terms of character right now but he is an immature kid with a blown up sense of entitlement. His family is extremely well known right now and he is a big deal. Think of OJ Mayo in high school and how much of a d-bag he seemed (taking off his jersey and throwing it into the crowd to get kicked out of his final high school game) and in two years is already a calm and steady performer in the NBA...Higher levels of competition have a way of humbling and forcing maturity upon immature players. I have plenty of faith that if Coach Crean is trying to get him to Bloomington, and sees him as a high priority (or so it seems) he feels that he can handle him (DWade was seen as a bad kid/pickup too)....but this is a moot point because hes going to go to Louisville so oh well...

I hear you James. No one wants the kid to hit the skids. Fact is Crean and others will avoid a kid like this due to behavioral patterns.

There's a better way to celebrate out there and it starts with the head coach. Now we know why IU never gets the Indianapolis talent.

He's only hurting his own stock. No worries, the SEC, Big 12 or Big East would love to have him.
  • Kelin Blab
Eric Gordon and AJ Ratliff were from Indy.
  • Ronnie
I'm a Purdue (love this website by the way) and I hope we don't get him either....way too much talent out there who know how to play the game right - 16 yrs. old or not.
  • MillaRed
When I first saw this video, I replayed the first 10 seconds to make sure it was Teague I saw talking smack after that first jump shot. That was all I needed to see to know he can take his _ss to Louisville and play for Pitino.

They got waxed at home by 25 yet I doubt he learned anything from it.
  • Kelin Blab
Milla...BINGO....he did it twice after two simple jumpshots he made and another time when they were down double digits. Ofcourse his mouth got him a technical and his fifth foul.....

I just don't want to deal with that type of nonsense....just play ball and let your game do the talking......

Hey Kelin I don't know much about high school athletes, but I think all the superstar high school athletes act that way, because lets face it we allow them to do it. I think its wrong , but I think it happens. Kevin Love and his father had a real campaign going to fire his coach, because the coach benched him in washington. Lebron James used to shout at his coach all the time ( I went to a couple of his high school games), and Chris Paul used to be a good kid until he received an offer from wake forest. There is the exception, like Gordon but if we want to recruit the top athletes don't be surprised if a lot of them have this attitude. I personally think a great team consists of one superstar kid, and a bunch of hard working scrappers. I like Hulls a lot better. I'm not joking when I say that he has Steve Nash traits. A lot of defenders are going to try to stop him and I think has the ability to know when to pass and and when to take the shot. The 2009 class is our scrapper class we just need that one superstar and we are set.

    J-
I agree unfortunately there are those type of players that exist in many schools, but, on a team that has loads of talent, when your teammates are not fond of playing with you....and after you make one jump shot you start woofing....that is not a one time thing, that is who you are.......

There is a kid on that same team, same grade, named chandler thomas who I would LOVE to have...Honor student, won tons of citizenship awards, and one of the top sophs in the state......
  • I wasn't too impressed with Thomas. Perhaps I saw him on an off night, but he didn't look like a high major player.
  • Kelin Blab
When you think of CHandler Thomas, think of Courtney Lee type of player. He plays on the speice team with Teague....off night on Friday though.....
  • Uknown
Kelin i like Teague alot, but i know what you saying about his attitude and i have to agree...his talent is emense but why have a one and done that disrupts a team...and for jgongora86, you are correct about high school athletes become ego maniacs to early, but not all kids have attitude but most do...there are some good kids with talent though and those are the 4 year type ones anyway...and that is what we want, look past these superstars with big talent and even bigger mouths cause a two year player is not what IU needs at this moment....also Hulls is good kid and plays the game how it should be
  • Kelin Blab
If you guys won't say it I will, I do not want Marquis Teague at IU at ALL.....fighting with your teammates....excuse me...upperclassmen teammates, talking back to your coaches, having no ability to shoot over a 2-3zone, and getting a technical foul for your fifth foul is something I don't want ANY part of...

So please sign with someone else and we will take Darwin Davis....
  • I couldn't agree more. Seeing that video and reading about his attitude issues makes me not want this guy in a big way. Go Hoosiers.
  • Kelin Blab
Jeremy....as if that wasn't enough....found out today Teague was suspended in his last game due to behavior problems......not sure how long the suspension is but ....thanks but no thanks.........
  • Hoosier_Hound
Do you have a Hulls video from the game, too? Since, you know, he's actually committed to Indiana.
  • MillaRed
The first thing I noticed here was the poor kid #15 for Bloomington. Teague broke his ankles all night. Teague is going to Louisville anyway folks. Why are we torturing ourselves by following his games?

The real news here is Teague was assigned to shut down Jordan Hulls and our boy went for 23 points and 6 assists.

Either Hulls is that much further ahead or Teague can't play defense. Either way this may have paved the way for his Mr. Basketball award.
  • I actually thought Darwin Davis Jr. (#15) did a solid job on Teague. He got him off balance a couple of times, but for the most part, Bloomington South didn't let Teague take over the game.
  • This was cool, but I have to admit I was distracted by how delicious the Tyson Anytizers look.
