6-Banner Sunday: Big Ten schedules announced for IU men’s and women’s basketball

  • 3h ago

Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.

While Hoosier Hysteria was recently announced to be getting a major shakeup by moving locations, the last few days confirmed that fans will still get a chance to see the team in Assembly Hall before the season starts. Speaking of Indiana’s home venue, the full schedule for the 2025-26 season was announced on Thursday.

Also, Inside the Hall continued its series previewing each Big Ten squad and football improved to 4-0. As usual, we will conclude with weekly shows and a look at other IU sports, which was highlighted by soccer bouncing back with a victory.

Here is what is in this week’s edition:

• Big Ten schedule announced for IU men’s and women’s basketball
• IU men to host scrimmage at Assembly Hall on October 3
• Big Ten basketball team previews
• Football makes statement with dominating win against Illinois
• Back Home Network shows
• Hoosier Roundup

The non-conference schedules and Big Ten opponents have been known for a while. Now the entire slate for both the men’s and women’s teams with dates was made official this week.

The men’s squad begins league play at Minnesota with their toughest stretch beginning in mid-January. Also, the Big Ten Tournament will once again include all the teams in the conference. The women, meanwhile, begin their league play at Illinois.

Looking further down the road, it was a huge recruiting week for both squads. Each one secured a top-50 commitment with potentially more to follow.

Some fans may have been upset about last week’s announcement that Hoosier Hysteria is moving out of Assembly Hall and onto Kirkwood Ave. It turns out, though, that there will be a couple of chances to see Indiana for no charge in their home arena after all, before the real competition begins.

While it won’t be the bells and whistles of recent times, IU will host both a team scrimmage and a Haunted Hall of Hoops event. The scrimmage will be the night after the event on Kirkwood Avenue on October 3 at 7 p.m. ET, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. ET.

As for the Haunted Hall of Hoops, it will be the night before Halloween on October 30 from 6-8 p.m. ET. This event began in 2008 and was a staple under former head coach Tom Crean, but was discontinued under the previous two regimes. Now under DeVries, it will make its return.

Inside the Hall continued its series previewing all the teams in the Big Ten.

Banner #4 – IU football makes statement with dominating win against Illinois

While Indiana has climbed the rankings and been dominant against lower-level competition in the non-conference, it faced their first serious test when league play began against top-10 Illinois. The major exam, though, for the Hoosiers was an A+ as IU dominated the Illini 63-10 to improve to 4-0.

Conference play continues next Saturday with another blockbuster. The Cream and Crimson will have their first road game of 2025 when they head to Iowa at 3:30 p.m. ET on Peacock.

Banner #5 – Back Home Network shows

The Back Home Network was on air many times this week as new shows continue to be added.

Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup

• Men’s Soccer rebounded from its first loss of the season to dominate Penn State.

• Volleyball suffered a frustrating defeat to Western Kentucky before defeating Bradley.

• Women’s soccer fell to Maryland.

• Field hockey defeated St. Francis (PA) but fell to Iowa.

• Baseball’s fall exhibition season will get underway soon.

• Men’s and women’s tennis competed at an exhibition event.

Thanks for your continued support of The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall. We’ll be back next weekend with a new roundup.

Now go enjoy yourself a 6-Banner Sunday.
