IU basketball summer in review: Prince-Alexander Moody

Welcome to IU basketball “summer in review,” where we will recap the summer that was for the program’s 2026-27 roster.
The Hoosiers, representing the United States, played an exhibition game in Assembly Hall in July and four games in the FISU America Games in Lima, Peru.
First up: Prince-Alexander Moody
A 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard from District Heights, Maryland, Moody was the first player to commit to the Hoosiers in the 2026 recruiting class.
Before his arrival on campus this summer, Moody graduated from Bishop McNamara High School and played for Team Takeover on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit.

Game-by-game statistics for Moody this summer
• Exhibition vs. Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf: 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the floor, including a 2-for-4 mark on 2s and a 3-for-7 performance on 3-pointers. He added five steals, three rebounds (two offensive), three assists and two turnovers in 17 minutes.
• FISU America Games vs. Peru: 17 points, three rebounds and three assists. Moody shot 7-for-12 from the floor.
• FISU America Games vs. Virgin Islands: 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Moody shot 4-for-6 on 3-pointers.
• FISU America Games vs. Chile: Six points, eight assists, three steals.
• FISU America Games vs Virgin Islands: 12 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.
• Final Averages at the FISU America Games: Moody averaged 12.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.5 blocked shots. He shot 18-for-33 from the field (54.5 percent), 11-for-24 on 3-pointers (45.8 percent) and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line (100.0 percent).
Notes on Moody from open practices
• June 18 practice notes: “The first commitment for the Hoosiers in the class of 2026, Moody is confident in his shot, talks a lot on the floor and is the most physically developed of the freshmen. He has the tools to develop into a solid defender and doesn’t hesitate when open to take a shot and his release looks good. Moody seems to be adjusting well just a few weeks into practice.”
• June 25 practice notes: “Moody doesn’t back down and is the most advanced of the three freshmen on campus as of now. He’s a capable ball handler and should be able to play some spot minutes at the point if needed. Defensively, he does a good job of communicating and he has the frame and strength to compete right away on that end in the Big Ten.”
• July 7 practice notes: “Moody looks the most ready of the three freshmen currently on campus to contribute next season. While he didn’t shoot it particularly well on Tuesday, he’s proven that he can make shots in our previous looks at him this summer. These extra practices in June will be beneficial to his development as a freshman, as will the exhibition next week and the games later this month in Peru.”
Five summer quotes from Moody
On the acclimation process coming in as a freshman:
“I mean, it’s been tough, but it’s been a journey for sure. I’ve gotten better each day and I just can’t get down on myself about the mistakes that I make and that’s the biggest part of just maturing at the college level. So as long as I keep maturing every day and just getting better, I think I’ll be fine.”
On what made him decide to come to Indiana:
“To be honest, the culture. The culture, the fans, everything about it. I fell in love as soon as I got here, so it was the peace. I came to peace with IU and this is the best I’ve probably been as a person since I became a basketball player.”
On the contributions he is hoping to make as a freshman and how he can help IU:
“Pick up 94 feet, distribute, just do what I need to do for us to win the games. If I gotta score, I gotta score. If I gotta pass, I gotta make it one more.
“If I gotta pick up 94 feet the whole game and not shoot a jump shot for the rest of the game. I won’t do it, so. I mean, at the end of the day, whatever they want me to do, that’s what I’m gonna do.”
On how he can get on the court as a freshman:
“Of course, I gotta get stronger. Mentally, I gotta get stronger. Physically, I gotta get stronger. And I think that’s just gonna be the main part because basketball is 95 percent mental. So at the end of the day, mentally, if I’m ready, then I think I’ll be on the court.”
On how he would describe his personality:
“Yeah, I’m just an outgoing, in real life, I’m just an outgoing person. I smile, and I kinda bring it on the court, too. Because the more I’ve just had fun with it, the better I am as a person on the court and off the court.”

“Prince is what you saw tonight. Like, that’s what he is every day in practice. His motor, his talk, so to speak, is nonstop on and off the floor. So he’s fun. He loves the game. He loves competing.
“It was great to see him out there. And I thought he gave us a great spark off the bench. I thought the last couple of weeks his play has really improved as well. He’s getting more confident in what he’s doing and understanding it.
“What I loved about him, he just plays hard. And that’s number one. And that’s what gets you production. That’s what gets you on the floor and he certainly showed that tonight.”
