IU basketball set for final against Virgin Islands in FISU America Games

IU basketball, representing the United States, will play its final game in the FISU America Games in Lima, Peru, this afternoon.

The Hoosiers, a dominant 3-0 in the event thus far, will play the Virgin Islands at 4 p.m. ET.

Given the result when the two teams met last Thursday – the Hoosiers won 120-63 – there’s no suspense ahead of this afternoon’s rematch.

In its other two games at the FISU America Games, Indiana beat Peru in the opener last Tuesday and Chile in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Today’s final will follow the third-place game, which features Argentina vs. Peru at 2 p.m. ET. The game will again be streamed on YouTube.

This afternoon’s game will be the program’s fifth this month, after weeks of preparation in Bloomington that began in early June, when the 2026-27 roster arrived on campus.

On Wednesday, July 15, Indiana beat Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf from Canada in an exhibition game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

The Hoosiers have not been challenged in any of their four games this month and aren’t expected to face a test this afternoon either.

Indiana won its tune-up exhibition in Bloomington by 34 points and has won its three games in Peru by an average of 67.6 points.

Junior big man Aiden Sherrell has led Indiana through three games in Peru. The 6-foot-11 transfer from Alabama is averaging 16 points and seven rebounds.

Freshman wing Vaughn Karvala, who had a 32-point performance against the Virgin Islands on Friday, is leading the Hoosiers in scoring with 20.3 points per game.

Freshman guard Prince-Alexander Moody is averaging 12.3 points and 4.6 rebounds on the trip and sophomore Trent Sisley is also averaging in double figures with 10.6 points per game.

In total, the Hoosiers have five players averaging in double figures in Peru – Sam Alexis is averaging 14.5 points in two games – and are scoring 114 points per game.

After today’s final, Indiana is scheduled to depart Peru late Tuesday night and the roster will have some time off before the fall semester.

The Hoosiers will play their first exhibition game of the fall on Sunday, October 11, against Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
