Bracketology watch: Where IU basketball stands in recent projections
With Selection Sunday less than six weeks away, we’ll periodically examine where IU basketball stands in bracketology projections. The full 2026 NCAA tournament field will be revealed on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
Indiana basketball is 15-7 overall and 6-5 in the Big Ten with nine regular-season games remaining. The Hoosiers have outperformed their preseason computer rankings in the first season of the Darian DeVries era.
Here’s a look at current bracketology projections and where the Hoosiers stand, along with their current resume:

Lunardi’s latest projection, published Friday, January 30, has Indiana as the last team in the field of 68. In the projection, the Hoosiers are a No. 11 seed playing Texas in a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio.
In a subsequent update on Saturday, January 31, at 10:30 p.m. ET, Lunardi placed the Hoosiers as one of the last four teams receiving a bye. This was after IU’s double overtime win at UCLA.
Lunardi has 11 Big Ten teams projected to make the 2026 NCAA tournament field.

The most recent CBS Sports projection, published Sunday, February 1, has the Hoosiers as a No. 9 seed after wins against Purdue and UCLA. The Hoosiers are playing No. 8 seed Villanova in their latest projection.

Delphi’s most recent update, published late on Sunday, February 1, has the Hoosiers as a No. 9 seed.
The first four teams out in that projection: Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Seton Hall and San Diego State.

The latest HoopsHD bracket, published on Sunday, February 1, placed the Hoosiers as a No. 10 seed playing No. 7 seed Auburn.
The first four teams out are Missouri, Seton Hall, Stanford, and Texas.
