Q & A: Class of 2025 forward Trent Sisley talks IU commitment
Montverde Academy (Fla.) forward Trent Sisley became the first player to commit to Indiana in the class of 2025 on Monday afternoon.
Sisley, who played his first three seasons at Heritage Hills in southern Indiana, is considered a four-star prospect and the No. 75 player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite.
The 6-foot-7 forward spoke with Inside the Hall about his decision to commit to the Hoosiers. OurĀ full Q & A is available below:
On when he knew he was ready to make a decision:
“Probably within the last few weeks really just narrowing it down on IU in general. Before then, it was just those top four schools (IU, Purdue, Michigan State, Notre Dame) that I had planned visits to and ended up only taking the Purdue official (visit) and the IU official (visit) so then within the last few weeks then I kind of narrowed it down to IU and made that decision before I left campus.”
On the process of reaching a decision and how he knew he was ready:
“Just sitting down here and thinking about it and spending time talking to my family, my dad, mom, siblings, stuff like that, people I’m close with. Obviously, you want to make the decision that’s best for yourself, too, so I thought about it a lot and then I think it was the best decision for myself.”
On how his affinity for IU and being a fan of the program weighed in his decision:
“I don’t know if it weighed too much because I was trying to take the fan stuff out of it during the recruiting process. I just wanted to see what fit the best and where I had a good opportunity and where I can go and hopefully produce and have a great career. At the end of the day, it’s cool that I grew up an IU fan and now I’m getting a chance to play for them.”
On the work the Indiana coaching staff did in his recruitment:
“It obviously started with (coach) Woodson and him extending the (scholarship) offer in my freshman year. Ever since that point, it was a total group effort. Brian Walsh did a heckuva job recruiting me and my entire family. Probably the best recruiter throughout the entire process. Hearing from Calbert Cheaney, Jordan Hulls, Kenya Hunter, Yasir Rosemond, really just everyone on staff. Adam Howard. Everyone. I have great relationships with the whole staff there.”
On the transition from Heritage Hills to Montverde:
“It’s been good. I made the decision to come push myself and that’s what it’s been. Just learning new stuff every day, getting better every day and trying to keep improving my skills to be ready at the next level next year.”
On whether the competition level was the main reason for the move to Montverde:
“Yeah, that was probably one of the main reasons, if not the main reason, that I made the move was just to be ready to go at the next level next year.”
On the benefits he’s seen so far being at Montverde:
“Going against great players every single day in practice and the constant grind. It’ll be more of a grind during the season because the travel and stuff is more like college. So really all of that put together will be great for me before I end up getting to Bloomington next year.”
On what stood out on the official visit and if he had thought about committing going into the visit:
“I think I kind of had a feeling going into it that I might commit but then the visit was great. Being able to go with Braylon (Mullins), who I’m pretty close with and then Eric Reibe was on the visit as well. So it was super cool to be on the visit with both of those guys. And then the staff the whole time, constant love throughout the whole visit was just great.”
On recruiting Braylon and wanting to play with him in Bloomington:
“We played together, I know him pretty well. He was there right after I did commit during my visit so he was one of the first people I talked to afterwards. I obviously want what’s best for him but I think that can be Indiana as well and I’m definitely going to try and make that happen.”
