Report: Indiana to play Penn State on January 5 at the Palestra
Indiana will play Penn State at the Palestra on Sunday, January 5, according to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.
The game will be one of Penn State’s ten conference home games. Last season, the Nittany Lions beat Michigan 79-73 on January 7 at the Palestra.
The Big Ten is expected to announce the full conference schedule sometime this month.
The Palestra, located on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia, opened in 1927. Because of its history, it is often called “the cathedral of college basketball.” The building has a capacity of 8,700.
Here are a few more details on the Palestra, via VisitPhilly.com:
“One of the most storied sporting venues in the country, The Palestra — at the University of Pennsylvania — is located just five minutes from Center City Philadelphia.
“Opened in 1927, The Palestra is now the oldest major college arena still in use today and has hosted more games, more visiting teams and more NCAA tournaments than any other facility.
“A visit to The Palestra feels like taking a trip back in time to an era before luxury boxes, $1,000 floor seats, and giant plasma scoreboards. To a time when the game was a little simpler.
“Perhaps the plaque inside The Palestra explains the arena’s aura best. It reads: “To win the game is great. To play the game is greater. But to love the game is the greatest of all.””
Here’s the list of IU’s Big Ten opponents for the 2024-25 season:
