Film Session: Wisconsin

In its stunning loss to Wisconsin on Wednesday night, the Hoosiers failed to score over the final 3:07 of the contest. And so the Badgers closed the game on an 11-0 run, turning a six-point deficit after a Race Thompson bucket, Indiana’s final score, into a five-point victory.

So what happened?

A look at the film reveals the Hoosiers had their chances, even had good looks. Thompson and Trayce Jackson-Davis single-covered in the paint. Parker Stewart wide open from distance. Stewart and Xavier Johnson at the rim. Johnson at the line.

But the ball never found net.

We’ll take a look at Indiana’s scoreless stretch to close out the game in the latest edition of Film Session:

On this first play, Jackson-Davis sets a high ball screen for Johnson. But with both Thompson and Jackson-Davis dragging their defenders to the paint, Johnson has no room to drive. So he finds Anthony Leal in the corner, who immediately passes to Thompson on the right low block. Leal clears out to the weak side, leaving Thompson all alone on the strong side.

He backs down Tyler Wahl, gets into the restricted area and takes a point-blank shot that … misses.

You can’t get a much better look than this.
