Film Session: Wisconsin
On Indiana’s first possession in overtime after winning the tip, we see the high ball screen going left once more. This time it’s Phinisee and Jackson-Davis. Leal is down in the right corner and Davis isn’t too far from him:
But as the play develops and Reuvers hedges as Jackson-Davis rolls, Davis is again pulled down into help position with a foot in the lane. Phinisee is primed to throw the pass:
He jumps in from the perimeter and whips it to Leal as Davis again moves on the closeout:
This time around as Leal catches, Davis is closer with hands up, as he anticipated the pass quicker:
But Leal rises and shoots anyway over him for the score:
Considering this was the first play of overtime and how Phinisee immediately looked for Leal, it’s possible the Hoosiers had this set featuring Leal getting the ball as their first option.
