Indiana to play Providence in Maui Invitational
Indiana will play Big East foe Providence in the first round of the 2020 Maui Invitational on Monday, November 30.
This year’s Maui Invitational has been moved to Asheville, North Carolina due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s the full bracket with dates, tip times and TV info:
The Friars finished last season 19-12 and were a likely NCAA tournament team. Bart Torvik’s preseason ratings for the 2020-21 season have Providence slotted at No. 31 nationally.
Last month, the Maui Invitational confirmed its move to Harrah’s Cherokee Center near Asheville.
“We’re taking Maui to the mainland! For the first time ever, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and schedule changes announced by the NCAA, the Maui Jim Maui Invitational is planning to relocate to Asheville, NC with games to be played at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville operating under the guidance of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services for mass gatherings. Tournament dates will be announced shortly. We look forward to bringing the Spirit of Aloha to the mainland.”
Games will be played in the ExploreAsheville.com Arena, which has a seating capacity of 7,674.
Originally, the Invitational was set to take place on November 23-25 in its usual location at the Lahaina Civic Center in Hawaii.
The eight programs participating in this year’s Maui Invitational bring a combined 214 NCAA tournament bids, 39 Final Four appearances and 13 national championships.
