Film Session: Michigan State
After Morgan hit his and-1 to put the Hoosiers up a point, here are the Spartans set up identical to play No. 2 with Winston up top, ball screeners to his left and right, and then two Spartans spread out in the corners:
Winston heads left this time as Goins slips the screen and heads to the paint:
Tillman heads over from the right to set a ball screen for Winston and Phinisee fights through it:
Morgan and Phinisee stop Winston:
Winston heads back out and gets yet another ball screen from Tillman:
Phinisee fights over the top of it and Morgan is behind him moving towards the paint. As this happens, Matt McQuaid starts to cut out of the right corner to the right wing:
As Winston drives left, he jumps and makes the pass back right to McQuaid:
But as McQuaid spots up to receive the pass, it’s too low and in front of him as Green heads out to close out. The ball hits off his fingers and it’s out of bounds on Michigan State. IU ball:
Great work by Phinisee to keep in step with Winston on multiple screens until his miscue on the pass.
