Mountain Brook (AL) forward Trendon Watford is the latest class of 2019 prospect to receive a scholarship offer from Indiana.

The 6-foot-8 forward is a five-star prospect nationally and is averaging 13.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for Nike Team Florida this spring on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit.

We’ve compiled more than two minutes of video from his play in the EYBL this spring below:

I didn’t think he was much of a shooter but I was wrong. Freaky how similar he is to Christian. We have some ground to make up on Alabama.

Would LOVE to have this kid in Candy Stripes… I think we have a shot.

  • Jolene Smythe

Still so mind boggling that Crean wasn’t recruiting him.

I think we are in great shape. He has to be well aware of the difference between IU and Alabama in basketball. Actually, its like comparing IU and Alabama in football. There is no comparison.

  • John D Murphy

One of the many mysteries of Tommy C.

  • Aaron Anderson

I agree… I just kept thinking that I would love him to have the exact same shot as his brother against Kensucky. Of course, we need to renew that series and get Young Wat to sign.
I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be a legacy in candy stripes!!!! I have to assume it would be very similar to being the king of Monroe County!!!

Historically, yes, but currently, not as much as you’d think. Alabama has recently hired Avery Bradley as its coach, and he has already had a big impact. This year he is bringing in 2 5 star recruits, both from Alabama or nearby, and seems to be really building some momentum. He is a former NBA player and coach, and a charismatic guy to boot, so at this point the Alabama basketball program is not much like IU football at all. And since Kentucky and Florida are also both doing well these days, even the conference itself is on the upswing. Doesn’t mean he’ll go there, but sadly we are not as obviously superior in this case as we might wish.

More athletic version of CWAT. Just get Kentucky on the schedule and we’re all set

Is it just me or a trick of memory–Trendon seems to have a bit more wiggle to his game than Christian? More lean, more capable with the ball, more lateral quickness, less upright?

  • TomJameson

I understand that Christian said that before long he’d be know as Trendon’s older brother. Of course, he’s saying that Trendon is much better than he himself is, and if he really said that (and I believe it), he wouldn’t lie about that.

I think whoever gets Trendon will be like hitting the lottery. Still a long time to go before he commits to anybody.

Love me some Avery Bradley. Smart guy. Nice guy. Played on my favorite Spurs teams. He’s going to be hard for Wat to pass up

normally i don’t read the recruiting stuff because in college bb recruiting falling in love before marriage ends in heartbreak….but would love to see TW at IU. great kid, great family – let’s hope they don’t mind making some trips north to watch their son play.

  • sarge

I think you guys meant to say Avery Johnson. Avery Bradley plays for the Celtics, which is why you guys probably have him on the brain.

  • sarge

    We have a Wat Shot!

  • sarge

It is similar to IU football in that they are getting better recruits, but still not producing great teams yet. But both IU football and Alabama basketball are on the rise. I think it was a fair comparison really.

  • vicbert caladipo

I meant Avery Johnson but just copied the name Arch used until I thought about it and said hey wait. It’s not Bradley. I think they called him the little general? Thanks for the mind jog.

Man, he has C-Wat’s shot, but so much quicker/more athletic. Good handling the ball, too. Just needs some strength.

(I’m wondering if he didn’t pick up that move, inbounding the ball off the defender’s back, from VO in East Lansing.)

I guess the question is this: does the family wanna relocate north? Because if they send us both sons, there’s no question we’re adopting them, all the way.

  • Jakedipo

Oh man, I’d love to get another Watford at IU! We’d have to start calling the Wat-shot, the C-Wat-shot, b/c I’ve got a feeling Trendon would have plenty of his own Wat-shots
