Thomas Bryant to visit Indiana on Saturday

  • 03/06/2015 11:48 am in

2015 McDonald’s All-American center Thomas Bryant will attend Indiana’s game against Michigan State on Saturday, Huntington Prep coach Arkell Bruce confirmed to Inside the Hall on Friday.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Bryant is rated the No. 27 prospect in the 2015 class, according to the 247Sports Composite, and is considering Indiana, Syracuse, Missouri and Kentucky as his college destinations, per Bruce.

Bryant took an official visit to Bloomington in October and has remained in touch with Indiana’s staff since then.

“I like their mindset of how they play,” Bryant told Inside the Hall in July. “They let guys do more than just one position. You can come in as one position and train at a different spot, too. You never know when you may need to play another spot or in a different position against another player.”

This past season, Bryant led Huntington Prep to a 31-2 record, averaging 17.3 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per game.

In addition to being named to the McDonald’s All-American Game, Bryant also was named to the Jordan Brand Classic roster this past week.

Also joining Bryant on the visit on Saturday will be 6-foot-3 freshman guard Jon Kabongo, Bruce said. Kabongo already has an offer from Virginia Tech and averaged 6.0 points per game as the lone freshman on Huntington Prep’s roster this past season.

And did you notice that they started at the 04-05 season and not 02-03 when they won it all?

  • JT Thomas

Lets just hope we play well and the crowd shows up for support. This game obviously is a make or break for this year but also next year. No one wants to go to a school where the fans boo their own team, even if they deserve it. LETS GOO HOOSIER NATION!

  • Hoosier Hall

I wasn’t referring to what Bryant said. I was talking about what CreamandCrimson said and then your comment to him.

  • IUfanPurduePhD

It would save the athletic department about 12 million, but I also think it would send a bad message to prospective coaches. We were apparently turned down by Tony Bennett and others before we hired DenimShirt, so it’s hard to see how Crean fleeing town would help.

  • Hoosier Hall

Whoops, I forgot about Isaiah Bricoe, ranked somewhere in the top 15.

  • Ben thorne

They will not be a preseason top 10

  • INUnivHoosier

And he’s got the wingspan of a dang pterodactyl!

  • INUnivHoosier

Bet his mom doesn’t say anything about that.

  • Donnie Vick

We don’t have a scholarship for him. Syracuse will do the same thing as Crean will to get him. Send somebody packing.

  • Drew

I’d be ecstatic. But what do I know, one minute Crean is out of town, next minute a top recruit says he’s favoring us. I think Coach might be a wizard.

  • alwaysiufan

Preseason #1 meant nothing when su beat us in sweet 16. Need some one to be able to coach to make a preseason ranking worthy

  • inLinE6

After losing that many games in the past weeks… we can’t lose them all, right? I’m expecting a win on Saturday.

On a side note, with Syracuse facing NCAA sanctions, I’m assuming it’s down to us and pUKe for Bryant to choose from?

  • Drew

I noticed that. But they take it away from Boheim do they really concede it to Kansas and Roy Williams? Him and his Tarheels might be the next program sanctioned by the NCAA

  • Ms hoosier

We need to hear a loud T-H-O-M-A-S B-R-Y-A-N-T chant from our students we really need this kid!!!! Please students show up and be loud!!!!!

  • It doesn’t hurt for a prospect to know that the fan base is passionate, and no one, not CTC, not the players, not the prosepects are entitled to anything but an opportunity to play for a ‘Great Program’. Respect and support needs to be earned. The fan base will support effort not just wins but the team needs to play like they believe in themselves and the ‘team’. CTC needs to be a little more receptive to the concept that the way he’s coaching right now isn’t working with his present team. That doesn’t mean it didn’t work in the past. Mr Glass needs to do something constructive for next year and Imho, I for one am not in faver of a new head coach (yet) but I would like to see Mr. Glass (not CTC) find a new assistant coach who could build IU’s front court. (would like that coach to be over 6″7″, head coaching experience, played college front court, i.e. Mike Woodson, only example)

Its getting to the point where I wish they would just replace your comments with the online posters who claim they make 8,000 dollars a day selling clothes online. You basically just called out everyone that posts on this site.

  • it’s getting to the point that the ugliness has no real response to its critics and can’t tolerate being called out. and no, you don’t speak for “everyone” and “the fanbase.” only a loud minority.

  • 5_Banners

Yea cause no #1 seed has ever lost in the Sweet 16 before. Only IU.

  • alwaysiufan

Point being polls mean nothing when we have a coach that is horrible with two lottery picks

  • sam

Why when there’s a chance to show a recurit what Indiana Basketball is all about? Statements like yours is part of the problem. And you call yourself a fan. I doubt it.

  • sam

How do you know all this? Man it’s some negative “fans” on this site. Not one person knows what will happen and being negative only serves the person that speaks it. Fan?

  • sam

I agree completely! Serves no purpose but their own.

  • Samuel P. Gaskins

How could anyone have expected to hire Tony Bennett immediately after firing his sister?

  • KmanCRK

Nobody on here believed me last year when I said JH and AE would be leaving…

  • KmanCRK

I believe Tony B declined before we hired Crean. Program was a mess, that is not a shock.

We would still owe him some money. It would be some agreed upon amount I’m sure in the end.

  • KmanCRK

can you elaborate? i’ve rumors of mass exodus if he doesn’t leave. If the feelings mutual, and we get a top tier guy, how is this bad.

  • Disco_Briscoe

    Way to score the deletion

  • “even if they deserve it”? Who on the team deserves it, precisely?

  • If Bryant has any intelligence, he’ll know we’re not for him – not until CTC gets fired.

  • Drew

Haha I am definitely a fan. Just referencing how weak our home crowd as been of late is all. I’d be very happy to have Bryant and I would not view it as the end of the world if Crean was back next year, if you were wondering what my stance on it all was.

  • Drew

Well for one, Zimmerman trimmed his list of schools he was considering and we did not make it. Thon obviously has stated before that he is considering us and wants to visit, but so far it is not happening. UK and KU in the mix, gotta think they would be the two leaders at this point.

  • Drew

    Yes definitely a fan.

  • Hoosier Pride

great way to back your team.

  • Hoosier Pride

I believe i’ve seen/read/heard bryant and holt played some aau ball together at one point. Does anyone else have any insight of that? Could be a factor albeit not a huge deciding factor.

  • calbert40

I am not considering player transfers and/or the loss of recruits. I’m simply talking from a practical standpoint. If the head coach of Indiana voluntarily leaves a Top 10 salaried position and a $12MM buyout on the table, because he is sick and tired of dealing with the fans and their expectations…what does that say about the program? The fans? How bad would your job have to be for you to leave that lucrative of a position? It would say NOTHING good about IU.

Is that going to entice Brad Stevens to come to IU? Alford? Marshall? Bennett? Smart? No chance. We will be left looking for the next Tom Izzo from the assistant coaching ranks. We’d be begging to hire someone like Dane Fife. Fife would probably be a fine coach for us, but his resume is a little thin with IPFW as his only HC experience. Is that the type of coach we want to hire next with the knowledge that another misfire could set the program back a decade?

  • Hoosier1158

That’s Cal, he’ll always go after kids that might commit to IU. He still has his feelings hurt from the Wat shot and the court storm’in celebration.

  • SCHoosier

If you are in A-Hall tomorrow..make this kid feels some Hoosier love. Put the intra-IU family squabbling aside and make the Hall rock. The players..recruits and staff deserve that.

  • SCHoosier

Just the kind of comment we don’t need right now. U can’t be a real IU fan.

  • Ryan Phillips

When someone vacates a win they don’t give a win to the other team, just take away the loss like the game never happened.

  • Ryan Phillips

The fact that you mentioned Alford with those other coaches is pretty hilarious. He’s awful, they hate him at UCLA already, they hated him at Iowa. New Mexico was the perfect spot for him because he didn’t have to do much.

  • KmanCRK

Funny that it is pretty much the same info being discussed exclusively on 1260 in Indy.

Funny thing is last time I got deleted was for passing along info that JH and AE had been forced out. Everybody thought that was crazy too.

It’s pretty much a done deal

  • HoosierFanaticFromUSI

For the love of God DON’T BOO THE TEAM on Saturday. We have a chance to get a good big man and if he comes into a gym full of boos he will undoubtedly look elsewhere.

  • Terry Arney

All the reason that this ‘fire Crean’ talk never should’ve occurred; and I’ve said it before and even called some ‘morons’. I guarantee that if we pull off the win: There won’t be as many comments on here as have been recently. Support the team till the season is over!

  • KmanCRK

I think the first thing I’d say is that Glass is probably doing more of master job here with his poker hand than people realize. He is making sure that Crean can easily land a job by almost sounding like agent. This also makes it look like an amicable agreement between the parties. Crean is no dummy and he won’t be leaving empty handed.

Also, prob fair to acknowledge that most of the folks across America understand IU fans aren’t happy with Crean and his ways (Creaning) or his results. Fair or not.

I think it’s fairly similar to Tubby and or Gillespie getting run out of Lexington. Nationally it was just understood. I remember thinking UK was crazy for dumping Tubby, but after either one of those, people would still have lined up around the block for a shot at coaching at a historic program.

  • HannerTime Hoosier

Bryant is crazy if he thinks CTC would let him play another position other than the 5! Never happened b4, will NEVER happen with him.

Or a relative from South Africa that I never knew I had is trying to give me my millions

  • MarkDIU10

When we have lost our last game and there isn’t another one scheduled, then its time to give the season a rest and see what lies ahead.

  • Dave Carnes

No team has ever failed to make the tournament with a lottery pick either.Player won’t solve our woes.

  • Dave Carnes

You may enjoy a good pee right in your face and call it rain but the rest of us call that ugliness.
