Open Thread: Predict IU’s regular season record

  • 09/14/2012 8:44 am in

This contest is sponsored by Underground Printing. Visit them in Bloomingon on Kirkwood or at UGPIUAPPAREL.com.

This topic, unlike a year ago, is sure to produce a great deal of optimism.

It’s not that there wasn’t some optimism last fall — a couple of you accurately predicted IU’s regular season record — but expectations are sky high for 2012-2013 as some of the early preseason rankings having the Hoosiers in the top two nationally.

And so we open this thread again to get you on record with your prediction for IU’s record for the upcoming season.

Once again there are 13 non-conference games. 18 Big Ten games. A total of 31 contests. The schedule, for those who wish to give it a once over before locking in your prediction, is here.

Your reward? $50 to spend either in store or online with our friends at Underground Printing.

Here’s how it’ll work: This thread will remain open until the end of the month. Your guesses will then be locked in on October 1 and following the Michigan game next March, we’ll revisit the comments and pull out all of the correct guesses. Everyone that gets the regular season record correct will then be entered into a drawing for the prize.

Feel free to provide an explanation with your prediction, but please post the final record it as the first part of your comment. It makes for easier record keeping. Also, one entry per person, please.

25-6. Will be a great year b1G is really strong will take some tough losses on road but will make to final four.

  • omegaman

5 losses for the regular season. Getting to the Big Ten tournament championships…but losing a close game. Then going to the Final Four…losing in a semi-final game…you heard it here first…

Yes, and you do realize we’re talking about the B1G and not the SEC, right? IU will be one of the best teams in the nation but the B1G is stacked. I mean they could steal one or two of those games but it’s not that likely. You also have to consider that IU struggled on the road last season as well. Illinois is the only team I mentioned that I think IU has a shot at winning on the road.

  • Hoosierdaddy91511

To say a team will go undefeated throughout the season in arguably the best conference in the nation is just arrogant… Especially when you talking about a team that has yet to prove themselves on the road in conference play. IMO…

  • Hoosierdaddy91511

This isnt a kentucky team playing in a weak conference…

  • Hoosierdaddy91511

They can steal one at Illinois and maybe even MSU or OSU but we’re talkin about a conference that has 6+ teams that will probably be dancing come March.

18-13 I hope we do better but I’m being realistic. We’ll probably struggle on the road some, but I think 18-13 and another NCAA tourney bid is a good step in the right direction. I do hope I lose this to everyone picking 31-0 though!

  • Spencer

    28-3 all road losses

  • Evansville Hoosier

The point is we lost 7 games last year, are we only one or two wins better than that this year?

  • HoosierPat

Saying IU has zero chance of winning on the road is a ridiculous statement to make. I can see probable losses @MSU/OSU/UM, but to say they will lose “no doubt” @Minnesota and probably @Illinois makes no sense. IU could wind up losing those games because the B1G is extremely tough, but IU will also be putting an elite team on the floor with experienced veterans and crazy talented underclassmen, not to mention the possible Player of the Year.
    P.S. I don’t think adam j was completely serious about the 31-0.

Dont misunderstand. Zeller does have a good shot at POTY, Just like the Hoosiers are preseason #1 preseason B1G favs Preseason National championship favorites but until they prove they can win on the road you have to give them loses @ at least all those except Illinois.

  • 26-5 (finishing the season ranked 3rd or 4th in the nation)
Mark it down folks! This is what will happen!
After regular season, we will be runner up (2nd place) in BIG tourney.
We will go to the Final Four but not the championship in March!
    Just my 2 cents… I hope I’m wrong! I want to see nat’l champ banner #6!!!

    28-3

Losses at OSU, at MSU, and at UM.

Illinois is not gonna be that good!!!!!!!! We beat them last year, we are better this year and they are worse. Could they lose? yeah. To say probably tho is ridiculous

  • BOILERUP

    29-2 … 2 losses to Purdue.

  • Shop7

So you don’t think we are better than last year?

  • HoosierPat

Then quit making such a big deal about it.

  • HoosierPat

I think this team is capable of winning on the road. Heck, they beat NC State on the road last season. NC State went to the Sweet 16. I think this will be a tough, hard nosed team.

    27-4

I see 15-3 in B1G, and a loss in pre-conference. Sky is the limit though.

  • Kelin Blab

IU Goes 28-3….the problem I have I don’t know where the other two losses are outside of @MSU. They will sweep Michigan cause I don’t think they are that good. I think OSU is overrated as well and they don’t play wisky on the road.

  • Josh

    27-4

  • Devout Hoosier

    31-0

Hopefully without too many buzzer beaters or over times on the road, but this team as the experience and talent to finish games. I just can’t bet against them against any team no matter where it’s played. Should be a fun year, Go Hoosiers!!!

    29-2
Ok… let’s hope I have the same fortune that I had last year. Here’s how I got there:

I have a real hard time believing that we lose a non-conference game. We will roll through the first opponents. Bryant, ND St., SH St., and Georgia will be 20+ victories. I don’t think that Georgetown will be a problem. If we have to play UCLA we might have more of a problem, especially if Shabazz can play. I still think we come out on top in an epic battle. We, then, put the hurt on Ball St. to make us 6-0 going into the ACC/B1G Challenge. I know I might be a homer but I think we will dispatch with UNC without much issue. Coppin St., CC St., Butler, MSM, Fla. Atl., and Jacksonville will be jokes. That makes us 13-0 going into B1G play. Without UK on our non-con schedule, it looks pretty light. UCLA is a good pick-up but this might hurt us when it comes time for seeding in the Tourney.
I am calling 16-2 in conference play. Instead of stringing off a game by game win-loss tally, here are the highlights. We destroy Wiscy in our house. We drop a close one to Mich. St. in East Lansing that is decided by some missed free throws and a couple of Teddy TV’s infamous calls against Zeller. We make Mitch McGary look silly when Michigan comes into The Hall. Yogi embarrasses Aaron Craft when we march into Columbus for a win. VO solidifies his draft status when he goes for 30 at Ann Arbor even though we drop one to the second best team in the B1G. This is disappointing but the guys refocus and don’t lose a game until we hang #6 in March.

    That’s how I see it.

  • mdn82

Hoosier Nation would be in meltdown mode if this was correct. No way do I see this happening unless Zeller gets injured.

  • at this point you cant say the team hasn’t proven themselves on the road because this team is different from the teams of the past 4 years. Thats like saying Kentucky wont be good because their group of 5 new freshmen havent proven themselves on the road.

  • AJRod42

Florida won back to back in 2006 and 07 when Noah and everybody returned.

I see us losing at a very tough Breslin Center and at Michigan. We’ll take out OSU on their home court and take care of everyone else. We are LOADED unlike anyone else. It’s gonna be a fun season my friends!!!

  • 28-4. Loses @ MSU, @UM, @OSU, and dare I say it…@ Iowa.

  • Joldham

    26-5

Has anyone looked at the Coaching Search page lately? It’s up under the More tab. Wow was everyone wrong about Crean. Nobody wanted him, and was looking to get Tony Bennett.

  • twarrior87

28-3… no team in the country would be able to go through the B1G season w/o 2 or 3 losses. The conference is too stacked for that. I will be happy if we can steal 1 win from the @UM, @MSU, @OSU portion of the schedule.
